OnPoint: Student Loans are Loans (Duh.), in reply to Bart Janssen,
I find it a great pity that the Techs have felt the need to become Universities.
I'm so late to this discussion, I can't add much except to say that in the last National Government, the then Minister for Tertiary Education, Wyatt Creech, told them that's exactly what they should do - they should aspire to be universities. He went further and introduced incentives to encourage them into that very space. It was stupid policy not least of all because it simply redistributed existing enrolments across a broader range providers, rather than increase or broaden participation.
I'm sorry I've not followed this thread more closely, I'll merely offer the view that the NZ student loan scheme is in desparate need of reform - root and branch - and I hope that happens before Australian universities start recruiting directly from NZ schools (which is inevitable given the current policy settings).

Thanks Mark, figured a couple of Swedes would tour both NZ and Australia having made the journey south. They played last night with just a drummer which works since its their voices and harmonisation that is, for me, so appealing.

Lilith, I saw First Aid Kit last night; they are fucking awesome! I'd strongly recommend seeing them if they cross the ditch. Hard to believe they're 21 and 19 respectively.

I was back in NZ a week or so back and was stunned to realise some of my family listen to Deaker... how's he still on the air? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, shock-jocks are omnipresent on Australian radio too (and are probably worse, forget Alan Jones, John Laws sets the standard for bigotry).

In my very limited experience, Scandanavian people tend to have an oddily American accent. I assumed it was a function of whatever language resources they use in their schools.

Loving First Aid Kit, but agree, would never have thought them Swedish. They're touring Sydney and am seeing them later this month... try the track Emmylou
