Hard News: Judicial caprice is no way to…, in reply to
My former (and now deceased) neighbour was caught manufacturing heroin and didn't go to jail, despite a long list of previous. An acquaintance, also with previous, was busted with pot, pills, speed and $15k in cash and only got home detention
A good lawyer can get your case shifted to different areas for benefit of the client. A good lawyer will know which way to plead and which ins and outs will help your judge to sentence (e.g get you into rehab quick smart to show the judge you intend to "change" your ways) A good lawyer costs lots of money. That's the first problem , lots of money. Next to Kaikohe is Ngawha Prison. Many wives will move to the area to get near the prison for visiting ,(especially gang wives) if they need to and I suspect this particular Judge is used to handing down this sort of sentence in this area. Because Gangs are around this town, jail may be par for the course. If that is the case in kaikohe, the lawyer should have looked at best options and a different plea may have been better. Not all lawyers are good though. Have we got examples of his behaviour in sentencing. A David Hood graph may be revealing.

Poll results depend on how you ask what you ask and who you ask.
And nobody asked me ;)

Hard News: About Campbell Live, in reply to
I do think opinion pieces are just that so have no concern for her assumptions about RNZ's restructure. I also found her apology for having a moment that she never intended to be heard a poor effort from an experienced radio/TV presenter. Completely unprofessional. Unlike the naive comment from Pebbles Hooper in her crass comment. I think though for Smalley, image (and a stereotypical one because of her comments) is more important than her wish for gender equality amongst her peers. I certainly don't like inequality but I think it comes in many forms and to pick her subject as Campbell gets a break after such a beating recently, could now also appear to have an ulterior motive. I mean ,why not complain when Henry was rehired after so much failure here and Oz? There may be too many white wealthy men around that pull strings in NZ and get the big jobs but she buys into it too, just by being there so in this dog eat dog world , yada yada yada.

Polity: Too much to swallow on the TPP, in reply to
until November...
This sums up my disapproval of the TPPA. Prof. Kelsey has been following it for some time
The secrecy is undemocratic and that which seems to have been leaked about it, then the suggestions drip fed to media from National, all suggest there is nothing of value to NZ. The secrecy to me suggests nothing in this Pact benefits NZ so it must be crap. Therefore I disapprove. Our democracy is yet again under attack. -

Hi Steven. I asked my friend on Sunday if anything was in place for Kids at his School dealing with suicidal thoughts. He said they have a full time social worker who deals with that and she does have experience in that area.

Aunty didn't live in Christchurch by any chance? When my brother was a Ford apprentice there a woman owner would bring her late 60s T-bird in for service
Born and raised in CHCH but owned the T bird in Baton Rouge. Gran had the Mustang in her older years in CHCH and an Uncle recently located it still in the South Island. I may try get that one day, for sentimental reasons.
