Isn't hindsight wonderful.
Just clarifying - I'm not just shrugging my shoulders there. I'd like to know what went wrong too. I reckon there might have been just too many fingers in the pie and no-one singularly responsible ?

I think part of Quay St should be turned into a plaza sooner rather than later.
Yep, I think they needed to spread the action further along Quay street towards Vector.
The placement of that faulty double sided screen at the bottom of Albert street was a mistake. Several screens further along Quay Street would have been better.
Food/drinks stalls all along Quay street as well.
If it wasn't for the general good nature of the crowd it could have been really bad.
Isn't hindsight wonderful.

Got to Quay Street at 3pm and immediately started seeing families and thinking "your young children shouldn't really be here".
Yep, we were one of those many, many families. Auckland City might want to tone down the *family friendly* component of their promotions I think.
We had a plan B so we got out of Dodge around 5:30 but there were still families with young ones pouring in. We (Auckland) may have just dodged a bullet last night I feel, it could have gone terribly wrong.
The funniest/saddest thing I saw was the big screen on Quay St that wasn't working and you could see the windows of the computer where the operator was moving the mouse around trying furiously to get it working with thousands of people looking on. Not sure if they got it working in the end or not.

The queue to get into Queen's wharf stretchs almost to Vector Arena at the moment..

+1 on the service at Wynyard. The Fishmarket guys are trying to cope but struggling, they've gone from having no business because the road was viturally blocked off while the work was going on to being absolutley inundated now. Hope they can get up to speed.
The queues in the Gelato shop were horrendous when we were down there, where's Mr Whippy when you need him.
Also those stainless steel sea eggs and the rusty iron shell in the playground look fantastic but they were hot to the touch on a sunny late winter's day. In Summer someone will get burnt on those. Many playgrounds have removed the old stainless steel slides for exactly that reason.
The kids loved rolling down the grassy hill and paddling in the pond under the *clothesline* scuplture.
The tram has absolutely got to get extended to Britomart as soon as possible or it runs the very serious risk of being a white elephant.
Great to have a space on the CBD waterfront suitable for families.

I doubt there's a sq metre of plastic shrink wrap left anywhere in the world at the moment, Auckland seems to have cornered the world market for all the (temporary?) RWC structures going up around the place.
