One comment in Grant Mclachlan's piece said that voting will be kept secret and we will only be told of the winner. So the fix is in?

Polity: Refugees and aid - we’re laggards, in reply to
A spokeswoman for Mr Woodhouse said that was to ensure they were not a security risk of ‘character of concern’ before they are allowed in”
We can now rule out that the government will ensure that New Zealand is not under any potential threats.Oh, c'mon it's Woodhouse you are talking about here . Actually it's National you're talking about. They don't know how to process there own backside. We are lucky though we have always had a great screening process. They got plenty of time for not too many so we will be ok, Don't Panic. We have interpreters here and English Teachers from all walks of life. The language barriers can be addressed if it's a priority. For now, I think these people need safety.
Whatever the cost of re homing these refugees, it's an international responsibility for bombing the affected. Johnny boy was happy to send our troops off to join international forces in Iraq. Now we reap what we sow. All War is expensive. Re homing people should be mandatory. Are we not supposed to care about our fellow human beings? Let's get over the cost, and get back to finding War repulsive. -

I also note Rachel means ‘Ewe’
or perhaps more authentically – ‘Eew!I tried to locate a pic of an Ewe for you but found it too insulting to the Ewe ,then I thought what other creature would be her equivalent and no, that was too insulting to all animals and insects I had pics of, then it popped on my screen so I think a fly's arse is about as good as she can get. :)

Am i taking these theories of media agenda setting, and the TPPA cover up to seriously? Are they halting me from seeing the real opportunity to change our national flag for the better?
I'm not Katherine but I think you are taking it seriously of which I thank you. It is serious. I don't want a flag change because I have a respect for the one I grew up with and I associate our history with that. I find this flag has many lives and stories attached to it and as long as we are part of the Commonwealth and also we used to be a British Colony, our acknowledgement of that with the Union Jack is appropriate. If we want to become a Republic, I see that being a chance to discuss whether we want a Flag change. We haven't even been asked yet if we want to change. That in itself is arse about tit to me with this divisive expensive fiasco. And, why is it that we do away with the historical significance? Our Flag is NZ in all it's glorious history. Why stamp that out?

Legal Beagle: Into the River/Interim Restrictions, in reply to
Do we know if the complainant has children or was just acting as ‘God’?
Bob McCroskie on the news last night said " I showed extracts of the book to several fathers TODAY and they couldn't get past the first paragraph, they were shocked"
How come he's allowed to be showing it to others. I thought that was restricted also. He seems to have broken the law. -

Bear in mind its easy to stop the programme if it doesn't work for whatever reason but I know of quite a few who have died waiting for new livers or just died . I was hesitant to start at first but as the efficacy rate increased I changed my mind. All I can say is ,I'm glad I tried and am still here unlike many people I knew.

So 750 over 3 years. 100 this year.

Hard News: To have a home, in reply to
My wife is a new migrant here this year, though by no stretch a refugee. She was lucky to have found a job here in May working for migrants who pay her minimum wage, she spends 9½ hour days per day on her feet, in an unheated workplace (even the customers complain), with no morning or afternoon tea break, a lunch break that only lasts as long as it takes her to eat her sandwich, no sick leave or holiday pay, a zero hour contract and it remains unclear whether income tax is being paid.
Oh Chris, for someone who is doing a valuable job such as hers , I am sorry to hear of her appalling conditions. It pisses me off that someone can abuse another human being in this way. There must be a local MP worth discussing this with. She is definitely entitled to a half hour lunch break if nothing else. And holiday pay and sick leave is her right :(

Reading some of the stories linked to above, I'll just add that the "stigma" comes with virus. I still found it my duty to inform any person I was involved with as to the implications of certain contact with me. There were some times that honesty was crucial. I managed to berid mine in 2005/6 and didn't find it as difficult as some made out but I had a lot of support and being thick skinned I didn't worry about other peoples negative shit. I also tried to continue my life as normal as possible while on treatment, with the only change being no alcohol . Now my liver is good and alcohol is back on my menu albeit in moderation. The weight loss I considered a bonus. So if the 12 month programme is all that someone can access now ,I'd say give it a go.it is worth a try.
