Thought so, anyone know if this was available for the first lot of Nat Standards data submitted or has been published since ?

Hard News: "Because we can", in reply to
Just to be correct she didn't say (as Keith says in the spreadsheet) there were 161,000 beneficiaries who'd been on a benefit for 5 out of the 10 years, she said "people". In theory they could all be working now but had been on benefits for 5 of the last 10 years.
The figures she quoted seem to be similar to these quoted in 2010 so presumably there is some substance to them.
I think the point that is that they're interested in the long term profile, not the point in time.

Has Lindsay Mitchell explained it in Gordon Campbell's comments section, difference between "continuous" and "average all-up duration" as she calls it ?

I'm not a fan of all the liftouts and inserts.
One major advantage of the compact format is being able to read without spreading it out but when you open it up now all the inserts fall out on your lap.
And yes, the "Business" liftout is something of an eclectic mix of content.

Re invoking a person's name, there are a lot of people called Alec Ross on twitter. I am still surprised he found my mention of his name (not his Twitter handle.)
Plenty of Social Media monitoring services he could be using or just vanity searches ? Especially considering he's just been here.
For Corporates in NZ the Trade Me forums are a favourite for monitoring.

Satellite Spies played at the Sandown Hotel, Gisborne, on New Year's Eve, 1999. Gisborne's population is normally 32,000 or so. On Millennium Eve, it swelled to over 40,000.
And how many turned up to see Satellite Spies bring in 2000, you ask ?Twelve, I'm told. Dear oh bloody dear.
Whereas I recall them being in Whangamata that night in the pissing rain, perhaps it was the "other" Satellite Spies ?

A certain wealthy school a couple of suburbs over from us has been notorious for discouraging special needs kids for a while now.
If you or someone you know has recent evidence/experience of this it should be reported to the Ministry. The law is pretty clear, unless the school operates a zone and the child is out of zone then they must be accepted, in fact they must be welcomed.

Hard News: And so it begins, in reply to
Do you reckon parents are seeking reassurance about individual students, rather than for whole schools or the whole system (which scores well as others note)?
I think it's been said here before that they're not mutually exclusive are they ? The desire to know how your child is doing and how the school/system as a whole is doing ?
Particularly the former is something you want to know once your child is in the system, the latter when deciding on where to send your child ?
Although as I said before to Russell, in my experience it's a myth that you have a selection of local schools to choose from anyway.
