And with that I will stop because this is not the thread for this.
There should be no thread for this :)

Cunliffe will have a better time of it tomorrow if at least one of the races is lost, otherwise whatever question time performance he makes, he’ll be a footnote to a major television event.
He'll be good for tomorrow, as it's a rest day for the America's Cup. Probably only have 5 minutes on the news.

I don’t know what “culturally PC” means in this context
Not having a bizarre Farmers catalogue masturbation fantasy in relation to a 16 year old. A good label in that context really.

If you don’t like her music, that’s fine, but she’s one of ours, and she deserves your respectful treatment.
And it's OK for reviewers to slam a performer or performance, as long as they do it professionally. Don't like the music or the performance, up to you, we can disagree. Crass sexual references about a performer cross a line, moreso given her age. Have to ask questions of the publisher at that point.

Yes! We can be a roving band of ranting poptimists!
Love the uniform.

This is one of my “issues” – no one else is ever bugged by it so I suppose I’m just a big old freak.
I know what you mean. I definitely prefer her studio to live, there's one word in the chorus in Royals that just grates. I'm happy to put that aside given that she's 16 and has got a decade for her voice and singing to mature for a pretty fantastic base.

Also a terrifically fun Daft Punk/Pulp Fiction mashup, which has unfortunately gone off download.
Gee that's got some ballast. Nice.

It looks like she’s on basically the same European promo tour that Lane Del Rey died on last year.
That album release is going to be pretty massive. What's the record number of album sales for a New Zealand artist?

From where? They have no regional land bases. They’re carrier dependent.
They have an air force base in Incirlik in the south of Turkey, not far from the Syrian border. According to this VOA story Turkey indicated that they'd be willing to cooperate. And other bases across the middle east - Kuwait, UAE, Qatar etc, though some of those may have overflight problems with intervening countries. The various bombers can be based anywhere in the region - France, Germany etc no problem.
But I'm still dubious that fighter capacity is really much of an issue. US would launch fighters to protect it's hardware and knock out any Syrian planes attacking, but any attack would be predicated on the intervention not getting to that point - you'd reduce their ability to respond in such a way as your first step, and not go in if you weren't confident of doing that.

And really, pretty hilarious to accuse Matthews of membership of the Servos for “legal” reasons when you are making an argument in favour of a man who joined a union when a Minister…
Also Rebecca Matthews (no relation, but she's a friend) is a member of SWFU because that's the union at her workplace. She works for NZEI, but she's not a pre-school teacher, she's a service worker, hence her union is SWFU. It's not 'legal reasons', it's... joining your correct union reasons.
I filed the comment about McCarthyism in the same box as people being raped by the media comments.
