  • Hard News: Itinerary packed, bags not…,

I believe that commenter was referring to a hoax email that circulated a few years ok, that the EQC discredited.

A senior male friend of mine worked for - yep, a government department in Wellington - in the 80s, & was done for sexual harassment after jokingly asking during an exceptionally tedious civil defense training workshop whether the "turtle position" was anything like the "missionary position".

    Sad eh.

No-one panicked and took to the streets. That's all lies.

  • Yellow Peril: Oink,

    that Vietnamese French bakery

Upper Willis St, it's still there too thank crikey.

Tze Ming, your blog was so full of mouthwatering descriptions of exotic fare that I for one resorted to waffling on in my own little glutinous comfort eating zone. I couldn't even find the rice-paddy hat "e" to use in creperie. When my husband cooks Chinese I just stare with eyes as big as saucers (until they start moistening from the aromatic spices fumigating from his large electric wok). I don't think he knows much about what style he's cooking etc., the recipes have just been passed down from father's father's father's father. YUMMO. I am going to buy him a Fuschia Dunlop book for his birthday. Thank you.

  • Yellow Peril: Oink,

Anyone tried that French crepery (that sounds a bit wrong) on Manners Mall?

Manners Mall certainly never smelled so good.

A civil war is raging amongst the food service industry, between those who believe in freedom and light, and those who would deny us pancakes or waffles on demand.

It should never come to that. Pancakes are so blimmin easy to make @ home! We surely don't need a recipe provided for the humble pancake??!

  • Hard News: You can't moan,

casahuia, that sounds most distasteful. didn't know about that...

It strikes me that Taylor's heritage is highlighted because a Black Cap cricketer of Samoan heritage is unusual - and a novelty. RB points out that there has only been one other.

Indian / Pakistani heritage players are not so unusual - they live in NZ, a cricketing nation, & their heritage is cricket also.

Irene vD's nationality is also unusual given that she moved to NZ & plays for NZ. That's probably why people go on about it.

Just novelty value... if we had a succession of Samoan NZers playing for the Black Caps from now on, it probably wouldn't be mentioned so much.

  • Hard News: You can't moan,

such a shame for aucklanders to do away with bilboards when it is surely inevitable that Ross Taylor will appear on one soon, clad in only a pair of pants.

  • Cracker: In Which Damian Grouches about…,

O my god I'm gutted!! What a faux pas I don't know what came over me. You're right that was a cardinal sin. It was the muppets that threw me.

As for films looking ok today... even the first LOTR looks dated now! watch it again & you'll see what i mean... how fast things change.

Some good kiwi scoping coming up soon - old fashioned splatter in "Black Sheep" (it will be awesome), & "Eagle vs. Shark".

Exciting times & no wetas in sight!

Swinging over to television now, who wants to bet that "Flight of the Concordes" features prominently in the next Golden Globes??????????

    interesting appraisals zach, thanks!

it wasn't david bowie's bulge that made me adore labyrinth, it was more to do with *shock, horror* a girl in the leading role.

the skexies were like muppets, yes, but with leprosy. i can still remember 25 years later the collective "ohm" hummed by the mystics to alter the planet's vibration. awesome!
