  • Hard News: About Chris Brown, in reply to B Jones,

We don't do this for fraudsters. We don't do this for thieves

Well, we actually do. A jail sentence will finish at some point and once such likes as parole are completed, an ex inmate will head out into society having paid their dues. Community work as a sentence is actually saying " go out into society and prove to others that you have learnt your lesson by doing a job of some sort then you are forgiven". A conviction can be clean slated as well, thus completely writing off what the crime was, so we do do it for thieves and just about every other crime with exceptions being Preventive Detention and Murder ,I think.

  • Speaker: Misrepresenting Kiribati and…, in reply to Bart Janssen,

Based on that news report I am considerably less sympathetic to his particular case

And based on that news report, the owner of the Orchard (his boss) also said it was he who gave Teitiota the idea to be the first climate change refugee. Teitiota may well have been considering the plight of or future for his NZ born kids, rather than a disregard of residents feelings. I do find it a bit suck when an overstayer British friend of mine is having her paperwork tidied up to remedy her circumstances without any problem. She's welcome to stay now that she's overstayed. 3 people born here are being kicked out .

  • Speaker: The government's Rules…, in reply to chris,

but it could have been more efficient than me then having to trawl even deeper through acres of youtube videos, five days into a ten day job in order to find a video made by some guy in the UK who was able to instruct them how to do their job in a language they could understand.

Or you could have just asked Steve ;)

  • Speaker: The government's Rules…, in reply to Matthew Poole,

And you definitely come across as implying that anyone who doesn’t get that deeply involved deserves whatever they’ve got coming.

I didn't get that. What I thought he was getting at was that we (jo public) should be able to access information if we want to, which could benefit anyone who wants to query their builder about any aspect of a build if they felt that way.
I'm lucky in that I get to say "why do it that way?" or "what does that do ?" or just "Why?" when I have to help do yet another job on the build we are on. Lucky because, I feel satisfied that I understand the more complex details of such things as the plenum chamber that exists behind the fire place or the mathmatics behind the design of our staircase. Then the Solar, that in itself is an experience all on it's own. Without the person teaching me as I go, I'd just be another person at the big table in the Garden at the Pub. I rather prefer the knowledge. For anyone to have the choice is a no brainer in my book. That's not to say everyone needs to read up.

John keys support of the labour party's Priministers - Green Party - privet bill from one of its MPs, is different enough to be ignored as a comparison

And I'm still trying to see where Labour MP's are trashing the Greens that apparently everything in The Herald says they are doing and now Savant's decided some commenter in a paper has defined Labours position which is actually different to the Greens and always has been. Their common ground was the mutual support of calling for what the people of NZ wanted. Save money ask if we want change. Greens changed their mind and saw fit to advise Labour. As simple as that.
Shit stirring is soo much better in the Herald.

  • Hard News: The positive option of Red Peak, in reply to David Hood,

The Maori party voted for it to be added to the referendum, or do you not count actually voting to add it as support of Maori leaders?

With over 100 Iwi I'd wager that the Maori Party had no time to consult them all . Maybe they tried a straw poll.
Iwi of NZ. Glorious Individual Maori Iwi. So no, support by the Maori party doesn't carry the weight you may think it does within the context. It just carries National over the threshold every time they are needed.

So, how many of you have changed from Hypno flag to Red Peak Flag ? That should sit nicely with what John Key Inc. wants. Breaking up the Hypno Flag momentum should bring Johnny's silver fern right through the middle. If in doubt ,get any opposition to National squabbling again.

    tip of the bloody iceberg.

That horrifies me. If that is all verifiable then people should be exposing all of it to all MP's bar National. Expose everything now and I'd be complaining to the Mayor! See if the 3D program will run with it as a follow up to their first investigation. C'mon Christchurch residents, complain !

  • Hard News: The positive option of Red Peak, in reply to Paul Brislen,

The whole thing reminds of nothing so much as one of those interminable corporate sessions where a committee of well-meaning amateurs tries desperately to come up with a mission statement and in the end produces a trite piece of pap that nobody can muster up enough energy to object to.

Agreed. The "Spark" logo or Kraps as we like to call it comes to mind and is exactly what we figured had happened. The relatively new TV program "House of Lies" comes to mind also but that crew, not so amateur.
