Obviously "Fuck Helen Clark" would have different connotations, because fuck is a gendered term. But a crowd chanting "Fuck David Cunliffe"? I wouldn't join in, and it's probably not going to be a hugely popular way of expressing your dislike for the Labour party, but it is basically fair enough, part of the game.

Whyte is engaged in a disingenuous exercise, where he acts as a politician then demands to be treated as a philosopher. Politics is a contact sport, and he's aggressively engaging in a very disgusting and immoral political exercise, of course he's going to get aggressive responses.

The bit where there are practical problems is part of what's genius about universal te reo. It means you commit to building an infrastructure to deliver the reo to every school kid in the country, which is a big investment in the language.

It's part of the general hollowing out of the press in NZ, no? Certainly the position in Chch for the visual arts has dramatically worsened over the past 10-15 years.
I have a vague feeling students' associations are weaker these days as well, which hurts student radio and chances of them running successful shows themselves, although that may be general political bias.
