In the Marlborough Sounds some people have Raparian rights which means that you cannot touch any part of the land above high tide. I was roundly abused once for attempting to run a stern line from yacht to a tree overhanging the beach which you do in the Sounds when in water which is deep right up to the shore. (A line from stern to shore and an anchor from bow.) It still rankles that "they" have ownership to the water.

About a week or so ago, Paul Henry had an interview with a prison expert and an on-screen one with Peta Sharples. Every time Henry asked a question of Sharples Henry cut him off by talking over the top of him. By my estimate Henry 75% of the words. Sharples 25%. Is this the best interviewing technique that we have????

David's writing is at once serious and full of warmth. Sigh.
We kept saying we should write the things that our mum and dad told us about their lives, but little was ever done. Mum died last year at the age of 97 and the age that she and dad survived in was remarkable like all those who were their peers. Wars, influenza, flight, TV, depression and so on. Boy do we have it easy! -
Wonder if there would be consultation on WHERE a big number of container /cells would be put?
-
Would be an interesting site (sight) when there are maybe 500 or 1,000 containers placed umm just over there in those empty sections in Helensville. Suppose there would need to be a fence or two and guard towers and bright lights to stop the homeless tryingto get in.

Or is the current discussion about Party place a deliberate distraction from other matters of Public Interest such as Rodney Hiding or the Worthwhile other mysteries?
-
Tom Beard: Does the Party need to be one central place? Why not have two or three centres and at least 2 could have big screens? My adult kids used to like to drift from venue to venue when partying.

As a South Islander I could imagine at very little cost a large expanse bordered by safety rails/fences to stop party folk falling off, seating of casual nature,an area raised as in stage, (so that John Banks Super City President could say "I had a dream....") water, power for temporary sales places and a safe way to walk on/off. The bill for this will be $3.5 million.
OR your square free of traffic would be cheaper and more accessible.Hey! Why not have a referendum. "Should Auckland have or not have a Party Space as part of Good Drinking Support and prevent innocent drinkers from being criminalised and should Sir John Banks be given direct appointment as the Boss?" YES or NO?

I think that I heard during Question Time today that the wording could be altered if the Ref Organisers were willing. Tail end with something about a consultation with the Clerk? Anyone out there?
