  • Hard News: Friday Music: Jean's Laneway, in reply to Jean Hughes,

...we were not the only women whose Laneways was disrupted by bad mannered men.

Very saddened to hear of your experience, Jeans - so much for music uniting the soul and spirit (and soothing the savage breast), where were security or police, or even a basic terms and conditions of entry - 'thou shalt not hassle or abuse other attendees without being evicted' - the modern NZ is becoming an uglier place, day by day...

Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,
To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak.
I've read, that things inanimate have mov'd,
And, as with living Souls, have been inform'd,
By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound.
What then am I? Am I more senseless grown
Than Trees, or Flint? O force of constant Woe!
'Tis not in Harmony to calm my Griefs...
...Why am not I at Peace?

    William Congreve, 1697

it definitely it feels like a shift.

...at this point in time NZ (and at a micro level PAS) needs a shift from the normal paradigm - this has been not working for some time - time to do things differently before we run out of it....

    the vulgar votemen...

    Government by consent, because “Democracy”

Government by conscience would fit the bill better...
we now have 'Deimoscrazy' - the sons of Ares ruled by fear and terror

    also:

    Democracy means government by discussion,
but it is only effective if you can stop people talking.

    Clement Attlee, UK prime minister

    Anoxia?

and ongoing fallout of the Canterbury earthquakes...

...it seems Brownlee so stultifies his surrounding environment even accelerants won't burn!

Abbott Howard Hoffman - sounds like a frankensteined Aussie politician (and they've already had to put up with Abbott and Costello...)

    the sunlight soapbox?

I'm aware we all know who he is and what he does... doesn't make giving the guy this space any more right.

You are sounding a bit narked....
Wait and see how it is branded, when we see the new masthead the as yet unknown title* may inform and as Rob asked above it will have the 'Promoter Statement' (necessary for all political proclamations it now seems).
The only problem might be trying to a put a 'monetary value' on having access to the eyes, hearts and minds of PAS readers for the Electoral Commission's total on advertising spend - personally I don't consider discussion as 'advertising' or even as 'proselytizing' - doing so seems like a tax on thought...

    *Title possibilities:
    'Salmond fishing in the Yesmen'
    'Heracles for a stable society'
    'What's all the Sisyphus'
    'Slog blog'
    'Trojan hoarse'
    or even...
    'Drudge red'

    (all tongue in cheek)

There are endless levers, but they make arbitrary rules not to pull them.

or have stealthily removed the fulcrums and us fools get the crumbs - if we're lucky...
