  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Keir Leslie,

    looking pretty fucking sleazy

Sadly I suspect a large proportion of his target market think sleazy is a good thing.

    Seriously Not My Job.

You're just there to organise the strike action.

    irony at work

I had hoped you were trying to use humour - however, you should be aware that all too many workplaces operate with such rules (unwritten because they are illegal) hence you shouldn't be surprised to see responses like mine. That makes such humour very difficult in the written form where you cannot rely on tone or body language to communicate the irony.

  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Phil Wallington,

But just about everyone I know (self included) has failed in either rule 1, 2 or 3

Which is pretty much clear evidence that your rules are utter bollocks.

It is particularly stupid with reference to rule 1. Note for many professions, basically the only people you are going to spend any time with are work colleagues. This is particularly true at the age when most folks are forming long term relationships.

  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Morgan Nichol,

it appears Jock Anderson has been fired from the NBR for his editorial that said Brown should stay on as mayor.

    For a while I was "I don't even.....???".

But then I realised it makes perfect sense. Stating the blindingly obvious is absolutely against NBRs code of conduct and entirely consistent.

    I’m disgusted by your comment.

Congratulations on passing your humanity test.

Note those not disgusted by the above post will be receiving their boarding passes for the B ark shortly in the mail, have a wonderful trip.

  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Richard Aston,

I just want to know if he was wearing his mayoral cape and hat.

and nothing else of course . Good question but would that make it even more morally reprehensible or just more interesting.

Why is the mayoral garb more sacrosanct than the Ranfurly Shield?

  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Tim Michie,

responded by email to say he highly recommended her.

Has there been any suggestion she was not able to do the job she got and do it well?

Unless she turned out not to be worthy of a recommendation I can't see that the mayor would have any other choice but to give her a positive recommendation.

There seems to be this idea that you can't be having sex with someone and still be able to recognise their actual skills and talents. That idea is demonstrably bollocks. It is also blind to the possibility of favouritism between people who don't happen to be having sex.

  • Hard News: Everybody's Machiavelli, in reply to Andre Alessi,

Brown had consensual sex with someone other than his wife.

It's worth noting that if statistics are to be believed half of all marriages involve infidelity at some time. It is apparently an all too human trait. It also does not appear to prevent people from otherwise contributing to society.

If infidelity were a reason to exclude someone from office I suspect half the govt benches would be empty.

Yes it was stupid, but I'd wager most folks have been stupid at some time in their life.

  • Hard News: Sick with Anger, in reply to Sacha,

‘disabled’ is a pretty good term.

The problem is always going to be that some er "human-like-beings" will use any term as an insult, you can't win with those.

As a result there is a chance that any term can be received as insulting depending on the person's previous experience with the term.

As always the receiver gets to choose what is offensive or not.
