I know you can pay to watch individual movies on Sky, but I also know that in most places, you can't subscribe to just one subscription TV channel.
Sky you can also individually subscribe to Rialto and the Rugby channel I think.
But that's again different from 'show me this episode or series of this show'.

Can we have an overview of the rules for this variant? Everyone seems to play online now.

@Kyle: To "break even on the broadcast" is a considerable challenge.
Yes, I suspect the model I have in my head works well for more mainstream TV series, suitable for large international audiences, made for 7.30 - 9.30 weeknights.
and the 16th episode of the second season of the Beverly Hillbillies.
Curious minds etc:
An escaped kangaroo reported by Granny as an oversized jackrabbit leads the others to suspect she has had too much moonshine. (This is the highest rated 30 minute American television episode as of 2008 since A.C Nielsen went to their current ratings recording system in 1960).

Once upon a time, every university dept had a departmental secretary, whose job was to type out the efforts of teaching staff. Now we do all this work ourselves.
I know of one department down here where several of the professors still have general staff type out their papers and lectures.

Meh. Dictionary.com has that as disputed:

3. Enormity has been in frequent and continuous use in the sense “immensity” since the 18th century: The enormity of the task was overwhelming. Some hold that enormousness is the correct word in that sense and that enormity can only mean “outrageousness” or “atrociousness”: The enormity of his offenses appalled the public. Enormity occurs regularly in edited writing with the meanings both of great size and of outrageous or horrifying character, behavior, etc. Many people, however, continue to regard enormity in the sense of great size as nonstandard. But it wasn't the best sentence, I'll admit.

I sort of agree but how many of those low income families pay up to $90 a month to watch Sky TV? We all complained about the licensing fee but are quite willing to pay for Sky.
These arguments bug me. We shouldn't help foodbanks because they're all buying KFC. We shouldn't pay benefits because it all goes on boy racer cars. We should charge them for free to air TV because they all have sky.
Those damn poor people aren't actually poor because they do this so we should sting them in this way that works out better for richer people.
Yeah! It's hard to get a proper sequence of back copies of Coro St. Why haven't they sold it on DVD BTW?
That's terrifying. 49 years of TV, even at 100 shows per year is about 1250 DVDs. The enormity of the task, and the chances of anyone being able to actually buy them would make the exercise pointless, even if they do have a complete set. It would cost at least $5000 to buy a set.
Newspapers have shown that there is a "market" for "good" journalism. Book publishers have shown that there is a "market" for "good" literature.
I think the market for good TV is to break even on the broadcast, and then rake it in on DVD sales. Once the TV show is made, the DVDs will be largely profit.

One would expect these days that if NZ was to reinstitute a licensing fee lots more people would do away with the TV and move towards a big non-TV screen to display stuff downloaded over the internet, DVDs etc.
Cue arguments "that's not a TV! Oh yes it is..."

Ugh. TV licensing fees are a flat household charge (regressive to income). Better to keep money coming from general taxation which is at least partially progressive.
A licensing fee now would probably be at least $200 to raise anything meaningful, which is a lot for a low income family, and a fair chunk of the money would be eaten up collecting it.

Jack was never intended to be a major character in the series. He was supposed to die relatively early in season 1 but in casting Fox and writing they decided that he was going to be a core character.
(I read that somewhere a couple of years ago, can't remember where so presume it's true. Edit, Wikipedia. Originally they wanted Michael Keaton for the role to kill him in the premier, but he couldn't commit to the series so they re-wrote)
