  • Hard News: Dirty Politics, in reply to Alfie,

    a teaspoon of fear…

Police are speaking to both of his recently resigned electorate secretaries about the “secret recordings” at the centre of these disputes.

    Reporting continued yesterday in Stuff:
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/77791872/police-look-to-arrange-interviews-regarding-todd-barclay

But I’m not really reading that the Police are responding to complaints laid by the staff… they seem in the dark as to what the Police want as well.

I’m just hoping Parliamentary Service or someone higher up the food chain aren’t using the police as ‘guard dogs’ to ensure the staff don’t say anything out of line or that might breach any confidentiality clauses that came with their employment.
That seemed to be the case when they paid pre-emptive visits on TPPA protest organisers. 'Behave!'
We live in rapidly changing times…

The recent armed Kawerau stand-off also seemed to be more about a show of abundant force, with community policing ideas pushed to the background – they don’t seem to have tried negotiation until way late in the piece – from my admittedly distant viewpoint.
I dread to think the cost of all those helicopters and mobilising LAVs etc….
The ‘we know best’ attitude seems a tad high horsed and heavy handed, especially as local knowledge and input finally resolved it.
    Just sayin’…

    beyond the pale…

That’s not a fair comment until you’ve compared it against the certified Fairfax list of celebrities against change

Agreed, I should have said anaemic on both sides – it’s more the nonsense that they seriously put either list up as ‘game changers’ of any sort – just filling in lines of news they might otherwise have to devote to something constructive (or even more vapid, more likely).
Though they did relegate renowned NZ poet Sonya Yelich to being merely ‘Lorde’s mum’ and changed her name needlessly… (reporters, ptui!)

It may come down to ‘Beach towels at dawn, Sir!’

No getting this 'genie' back in the bottle...
Trump is throwing petrol on a long smouldering fire - enabling homicidal meatheads - this can't end well.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/03/10/trump-protester-sucker-punched-at-north-carolina-rally-videos-show/

In footage published by Inside Edition, a man identified as McGraw is asked if he liked the event.
“You bet I liked it,” he says.
When asked what he liked, he responds: “Knocking the hell out of that big mouth.”
“We don’t know who he is, but we know he’s not acting like an American,” McGraw added. “The next time we see him, we might have to kill him.”

I'm not sure even Philip K Dick could have written this Amerika - The Man in the High Castle may be close...

whatever happens this must change the fabric of the United States - seemingly no longer one nation indivisible - more, many nations (and notions) formerly invisible...

PS I note that Fairfax (in the Press paper) and SMH are running this story without so far mentioning the bit about about the puncher threatening to kill the protestor.. (which was on One News)

To be fair, the ‘X-men’ flag is pretty cool….

  • Up Front: Five, in reply to Sister Mary Gearchange,

When someone persists in paddling about in their grief and uses it to shut down discussion then they should be told to GTFOI. IMO. I’ll say it again: grief is a phase, not a state of being.

Listen Dick - Get The F**k Over Yourself - we already know your opinion (seriously flawed IMO) Don't be so utterly offensive by persisting in repeating it - or repeat it under your real name if you are so convinced of your omniscience.

  • Hard News: The flagging referendum,

    Wolverine rips into flag...
Now they are getting desperate in the 'Change for Change's Sake' camp:
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/celebrities/77776026/hugh-jackman-says-its-time-to-get-rid-of-the-union-jack-on-our-flag
He doesn't endorse our alternate flag design just change and that's enough apparently.

During an interview with ZM radio, the Wolverine star said he was in favour of both New Zealand and Australia changing their flags.
"I think the days of having the Union Jack on our flag, we've moved on from that point. No offence, it's all great, thank you very much, time to move on," he said.
Jackman joins a long list of local celebrities vying for a change of the flag, which includes the likes of Dan Carter, Maria Tutaia, Chrystal Chenery, Mike Hosking and Oscar Kightley along with ex-Prime Ministers Jim Bolger and Dame Jenny Shipley.

    A: that's not a 'long ' list
B: those are a pretty anaemic and sad bunch of 'celebrities'
C: The comments are pretty funny...

this last paragraph is a very loose description of what is actually happening:

Voting is currently open for Kiwis to choose whether they want to change the flag, with voting due to close on March 24.

Strictly speaking we are not voting whether to change it, we are voting for which will be the the flag we use.

That's very (very) spooky, I had a long, vivid dream about a big city, and a big house, which involved Terence Hogan just last night...
...it was all about looking for things!

I put it down to the bad cold I am almost over, then I watched The Last Wave today, about dreams and dreamtime and premonitions, and then read this.
The shiver that went through me was different to the cold shivers I've been experiencing...

  • Speaker: Are we seeing the end of MSM,…,

A fine example of reporters not serving the public was served up today by Stuff:
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/77773122/ak47-m16-guns-found-in-huge-south-auckland-drugs-and-firearms-bust

There they found a clan lab (used to manufacture meth) and a secret room containing yet another lab, with two firearms and ammunition laying on the bench.

This one sentence is such a waste of opportunity and indicator of the reporter’s (and editors) disconnection from their audience – they seek to explain what a ‘clan lab’ is – by explaining it is used to make methamphetamine.
Not using jargon and saying ‘clandestine laboratory’, with ‘clan lab’ in parentheses and then the purpose explanation would serve better – especially as they then say there was a further secret room containing a lab – what could that be but another ‘clandestine lab’?
    a clan clan lab?

Or do they think ‘clan lab’ means ‘gang’ somehow?
    You’d never know…

    The police are more forthcoming:
    https://www.police.govt.nz/safety/how-to-identify-a-clandestine-drug-lab.pdf

Then having seen another Stuff ‘investigative reporter’ recently use ‘enervating’ to mean energising anything is possible…
