I would have gone with "this is going straight to the pool room". Applicable when people give you so many things.

Well, not just the telly. Kyle declared that Paul Holmes has no talent as a broadcaster.
I'll happily concede that this might just be me and some others. He certainly was fairly leading edge in his TV work (I've never heard him on the radio). Just not my leading edge at all.
One of them did that? Jesus wept.
Campbell Live. By the end of the show he had a hell of a party on the desk in front of him. You can understand why though. Today must have been the news/current affair show's big wet dreams.
I think this is what is upsetting most people - the fact that some MPs think that they're not going to get caught, so who cares?
I'd suggest that today's news would have had a lot less porn and alcohol and whatnot in it if 6 years ago Labour ministers had been told that all their credit card purchases were going to end up on the news. As much as the news about it has been a bit silly, I like the transparency, it will make a difference in how they treat their funds. Good on the Greens for starting this whole thing and for Lockwood Smith (I'm forcing this out now) for following through.

Do news programmes ever make a profit?
I believe 6pm news helps fund lots of stuff that follows. Always highly rating.
@Giovanni - I also take objection to this. I know what at least one of the top anchors gets paid, and it's about the same as various salespeople I know, less than ad people and lawyers I know. It certainly ain't the grand old days of Judy Bailey.
And in return for that sum, you get to have papparazzi follow you around whether you want it or not, your children are targets too, your ability to quietly enjoy a social life is seriously diminished, your sex life (and sexuality) is fodder every weekend, everyone thinks they can approach you randomly to tell you what's wrong with the news, and as this blog has illustrated, everyone thinks it's okay to kick you.
My understanding is that the papparazzi and the womens mag covers etc were all part of a plan by TVNZ about 20 years ago to promote the newsreaders/reporters as part of the TV news brand.
On that basis, it's a a bit of horse now bolted, difficult to get get it back surely.
Point of information: RNZ ratings, coming in at number 2 nationwide, pretty awesome for an underresourced outfit doing boring worthy news.
I don't think that's a fair comparison. RNZ doesn't have much competition in the serious end of the radio game, other radio stations might have a half a dozen stations doing a similar thing to them.

I used to watch morning TV relatively rarely - once a week at most, if I had nothing else to do.
My impression on Henry solidified that he really was a dweeb and I didn't want to support his salary, so I stopped watching. Some time before the Stephanie Mills incident, but that would have done it as well.
Maybe I am missing some talented work, I'm happy with that. I'd like to reward 'good guys', which I think he's not a member of. I'd like to think that these shows can be presented without the presenter either being, or taking on a persona of being like that.
See also Holmes, who I think is less of a dweeb, but who I think has no talent at all as a broadcaster. Stopped watching him many years ago.

For reference, "Kowalski! Give me options!" has become a catchphrase in our house.
That whole short movie is a whole nother level to watch as an adult as commentary on movies. I saw it at the theatre before the feature and just about stood up and demanded that they play it again.

My favourite movie quote is from Donkey in Shrek, which I tend to quote on Saturday nights when I agree that we can have waffles for breakfast the next morning.
And occasionally when preparing onions.
(I also have kids)

My expectation is that there's a separation between news and performance art.
Wait, Henry presents 'news'? Has anyone told him?

Submissions on this close Thursday 10 June. For those that are wanting to keep/tweak MMP: Campaign for MMP has quick submission online forms plus more.
I presume the bad guys have a web site as well if you tend that way.

An academic in my department who researches Clara Bow films will be looking forward to seeing that lost one.

But the council insist on cones, bouncers, fences around any area where kids might come into contact with the Evil Drink, etc.
Cost of putting on Carnival: $50k
Cost of nanny state: $450kThis carnival has run successfully previously with some council funding. It would be pretty presumptuous to say that the increase in costs of several hundred thousand is the result of the council, given that they've been involved previously. Evidence would be good.
