in precis: a BYO Donation entry gig tonight (Thursday 24) at the Lyttelton Coffee Company featuring some giants of NZ Music - Hamish & David Kilgour, David Mitchell and Bruce Russell and it even starts earlyish at 8pm - I think it might even be an Autumnal solstice full moon as well - propitious indeed! -

I can’t remember where I first heard this,
QI was where I first heard it.
see: https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/qi/episodes/6/4When wearing boxing gloves, it is much easier to kill your opponent. In bear-knuckle boxing, people would always aim for the chest, stomach and arms, because the chin was too dangerous. The chances are that you would hurt yourself badly if you attacked there. Only two people have been recorded as dying in bear-knuckle boxing in over 150 years. When boxing gloves were brought in, this protected the hands so people could go for the jaw and thus kill people more easily. Four Americans die of boxing related injuries every year. British boxer and former world middleweight champion Alan Minter once said: "Sure, there have been injuries and deaths in boxing, but none of them serious."
Though I have to say using 'bear-knuckles' sounds pretty dangerous!

Maybe the colleagues didn’t want that precedent of personal liability being set.
Steven 'Pretty legal' Joyce might be getting nervous about Eminem's lawyers and who'll pay the damages if he loses - hubris is eating the National Party!

Polity: Home-spun non-truths, in reply to
the Labour-Green government (there never was one)
I always wince/cringe when I hear of National’s Bluegreens initiative
– I instantly think of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins.
https://www.epa.gov/nutrient-policy-data/cyanobacteriacyanotoxins
Strangely apt though….Algae are a natural component of aquatic ecosystems; however, when present in large quantities as “blooms”, they can pose a significant potential threat to human and ecological health. These harmful algal blooms (HABs) are often composed of microorganisms known as cyanobacteria, some of which with the potential to produce toxins that can cause adverse health effects in humans and animals through the contamination of waterways used for recreational purposes and as drinking water supplies.

And how come the taxpayer is however paying for the preparation of his defence?
And all those police raids...
Police are expected to descend on media organisations today in pursuit of material related to the "teapot tape", while Prime Minister John Key digs his heels in and stands by allegedly defamatory statements about cameraman Bradley Ambrose.

“Mr Key’s honestly held views at that time”
....What on earth does that even mean?He held those views under his 'Prime Ministerial Hat' at the time?
But more likely he just believes everything he says himself...
