The whole simulation thing is notoriously difficult to adjudicate... At any rate, it's quite rare to be able to rule conclusively that somebody took a dive, even with the technology, so the occasional heavy penalties are a bit too hit and miss to be effective.
Officiating in any sport is about making difficult decisions, and diving calls should be carefully used and only rarely when the official is quite confident. But if referees made occasional calls when they were sure that the player dived, you'd see a lot less of the players doing it and more actual football being played.

Of course we have freedom of speech in New Zealand, but that doesn’t mean we have to use that freedom of speech to cause offence to people, particularly to overseas visitors.
This is the "freedom of speech until it actually starts to mean something" theory. It's a little read footnote in the BORA I think.

I had a boyfriend who did gardening jobs via bicycle, for which he would take his own fork. Cycling with a gardening fork over your shoulder gets you LOTS of space on the road :-D
A local Dunedin cyclist, fanatical anti-helmet wearer, has a large stick poking out the right side of his bike, clamped under the spring thing over the back wheel. Says cars tend to give him a good extra couple of feet rather than risk their paint work.

Suarez, in my mind, embodies everything I hate about football. Diving, self-important arseholes and playing to screw over the other team.
I do wonder if there's a reason why the governing body hasn't gotten tougher on that sort of stuff.
Who enjoys the part of football where players are rewarded for diving and feigning fatal injury, and then both sides yell at the referee with looks of disbelief? What reason is there for it not being stomped on?

Good to know that the science, at first glance, contradicts :)
So the best of both worlds is to have everyone wearing a helmet, but have that helmet not affect their behaviour, or the behaviour of motorists? (just their hair).

And also that said wife is a gender traitor who has sold out for money and fame.
These sound like excellent reasons to sell out. If you're gonna do it, might as well do well out of it.

The A&E argument is very easy to follow and intuitive; the statistical argument difficult to follow and anti-intuitive.
Does the statistical argument look at severity of injuries, or just number?
The latter obviously says something about our society and how people behave on bikes and in cars, the former says something about what happens when people fall off bikes with or without a helmet, they're curiously related but different bits of data.

Also, if you take a cutting of a plant your theft is surely: the bit of the plant you took.
It's not like you're making an exact copy of the plant without damaging it, which is what happens in the music industry.

I would say that if you said your idea of feminism was to be completely submissive to men
What about a woman whose kink is that very thing?

I'm a bit gutted that he put that awful Feist video and song above the Pixies. For a moment there I thought he had taste, Gigantic is a great song from a great band.
