  • Hard News: PEDA: Who, what, where, why,

By just saying who was at this dinner that he put on the rate payer's credit card
    Simple really

Christ. It's not the ratepayers card. If it was, any rate payer could rock up and use it. People should be able to meet with the mayor and not have that become a public issue just because he paid for the meal. Disclosure about meetings shouldn't be about money, it should be entirely unrelated to that.

Will The Radio Network be taking a similarly zero tolerance approach to on-air fag-baiting and racist mouth-farts on Newstalk ZB and Radio Sports?

I'm going to take a stab at this one, and guess 'no', sadly.

I thought it was good to see a journalist doing some fact-checking before publishing rumours. Not always the case.

  • Hard News: Gushing for Auckland,

NZH: 'I completely forgot about any of that' says Banks.

We're really reaching down into the bottom of the list of things that shouldn't be stories now. $400 in entertainment costs after saying he didn't take a cent? Who cares?

Insert a Craig quote here about wishing Auckland media would delve slightly deeper into local body politics by looking at their records/policies/plans for running a city of 1.4 million people.

  • Hard News: Clover It,

I'm none of the above, but age-related eyesight issues do make it a bit hard to read the labels these days.

Not an exclusively GE issue though. :)

I actually like the chances of a selection of Italy, Spain, Germany and Japan against those particular nations (to which we must add the Netherlands and France).

    It would be very complex.

The French would start on the Allied side, get their butts kicked, and then start playing for the Axis side, but half their team would be sabotaguing the team by stealing their boots and blowing up the goalposts. The Russians wouldn't so much put a team on the field as about half a million people, though only every 5th would have shoes on their feet.

And the British Royal family would be hypocritically supporting the Allied team, after all them were on about how great the Germans were a couple of years beforehand.

  • Hard News: Gushing for Auckland,

Banks told Radio New Zealand he takes home none of his $160,000 salary – because he uses it to fund a private media adviser.

That's about as silly as saying that he doesn't take home any money, it all goes on childcare and schooling for the kids.

If the money ain't going to a foodbank, going back into the city council coffers, or being handed out to people walking up Queen street, it's going home.

I also want to note that I take home almost none of my salary. I do however take home a car, food, clothes etc. I'll be mentioning this in my upcoming election campaign in which I'll be running against Banks for "most stupid things said in 2010".

  • Hard News: The Future of the Future,

Have you never heard the term "Privatise the profits, socialise the cost"?

I think the costs are being broadly spread over both BP and the environment, government, private individuals in this case. Fucked up all over.

The only other thing I would have liked today would have been for Wood to come on a bit earlier.

I agree with that. He looked dangerous, Fallon never seemed to have that impact post-Bahrain.

  • Hard News: The Disingenuous Press,

Jacinda Adern nailed it when asked about Norman on backbenchers this week I thought. Put freedom of speech out in front, came in 100% behind it, and then said that she might not have done it that way but freedom of speech was the issue.

Have a coherent position, backed up with facts and numbers. "Free Tibet now!" is not a coherent position.

We need to keep in mind that protesting is not about writing laws or resolving all the world's problems in all their complexity. It's about getting a reaction and getting attention to an issue so that it pushes other people towards doing those things. Someone has to be out there on the extreme.
