Hard News: Doing over the witness, in reply to
Not all crimes are equal.
Police resources are not infinite.
Both of these are facts and given those facts it is a reasonable question to ask why are significant police resources being applied to this case.
Aha... but remember the teapot case where the Police decided that Key and Banks had a reasonable expectation of privacy, even though they were surrounded by dozens of invited media people holding recording devices.
At best the raid on Hager's home is intimidation. At worst it's a blatant grab of his encryption keys and all of the research he's doing for future stories.
-
According to Hager's own account, this raid took place last Thursday. I'm surprised that it wasn't made public a lot earlier.
-
The Herald reports that the Police took away "Computer equipment" from Hager's home.

Fonterra confirms that Sri Lanka has suspended the sale of Anchor milk powder because it has made children sick.

Something similar happened to Tom Kane in Christchurch. He owned Applefields and found a lucrative market in the US which would have seriously increased his income, but the Apple & Pear Marketing Board wouldn't allow him to sell direct. Tom is an obstinate chap and refused to give in -- he ended up leaving apples to rot on the trees in several large orchards. The land they occupied are all housing developments these days.

The overnight Global Dairy Trade auction saw milk powder prices fall again, this time by a further 10 per cent. I'm not sure where that leaves farm gate pricing but it's surely going to drop below $5.
I'd love to see the guest post by Farmer Green that Russell requested.

Just a thought, but I think it would be preferable if WO was always attributed by name not by monicker. "This is just nasty stuff on the part of Cameron Slater and others". The man should own his vile outpourings and be held accountable for them as much as possible.
Another way of looking at it Trevor is that using this person's real name and/or the name of his site donates him a little Google juice, and we don't want to do that. Personally, I think 'odious slug' fits the bill nicely.

What you you think about summing all this up into a guest post for us, FG?

Selling powder to the poor will not do it for Godzone
This report from the International Farm Comparison Group was mentioned on Morning Report today. It puts Fonterra as the second in the world for volume of milk collected (22m litres) but near the bottom of the list for value creation per kg.

Hard News: The humanity, in reply to
So "full fat" milk is fresh milk, with no powder added?
That's not how I understand it. I believe (and feel free to correct me Farmer Green) that almost all of the milk you buy in supermarkets is reconstituted: water removed, turned into milk powder, stored, water added for retail sale.
We've been drinking raw milk from a local farm for a couple of years now. Damn, but it so tastes like... milk. Or the way that milk used to taste when I was a kid. The full fat variety even has that creamy bit at the top of the bottle. Once you've experienced raw milk, it would be very hard to go back to the tasteless stuff again.
