  • Hard News: The positive option of Red Peak, in reply to Hilary Stace,

    You are great Hilary!

Can I suggest getting ‘Laser Kiwi’ and the Black & White ‘Girl in Profile with Silver Fern Ponytail’. Just from the time capsule angle I think that would round out your collection nicely.

Yes, it’s a bit of an investment (two Red Peaks: one to stash, one to fly) but far more relevant as a bundle…..and I’m sorry you would need to add the current flag before sealing them in a milo tin and burying them in the garden…..can be bought from ‘Hello Banana!’ here in Nelson for about 10 bux. The other two, I fear, will be a custom print……

I’m already having flag appreciators remorse about Sheep with Hokey-Pokey Ice Cream not making it into the tin….

After some deep thinking, I’ve desided I’m not going to deface my first voting paper when I’m in the voting booth. That’s to say I’m going to cast an otherwise vote.

Well I suspect the F U J.K vote will be extremely popular with those suffering through 7/9yrs…..although likely he will max out at another 1.5.

  • Access: Safe schools for everyone,

Forgive me, I am cynical about this whole process.

I have an ORRS funded child, so am familiar with the intricacies of this whole scenario.

The powers that be are fully aware of what is needed to have truly inclusive education. What is missing is the will to make it happen. Families, students and schools know exactly what is needed and would do well under individualised funding.

Unfortunately....there is an entire industry built up around these children. An elaborate job creation scheme with precious little benefit to the children and workers at the sharp end in schools. If you want to know where to trim the fat off, look into the impotent Special Education Services.

I made a lengthy submission to the last review a few years back. I wont be contributing to this one. A talkfest is not required. Less rhetoric and more implementation needed.

Special Education Services is a clusterf**k at best and a fraud at worst.

  • Hard News: NZME and you,

Well this is topical in my little bubble.

I have recently ditched a few of my nostalgia reads (SS Times/Listener: grew up in the eighties) as the enjoyment, for me, was gone but the habit wasn't. So time to relocate the limited time and funds to new reads.

Digital New Yorker replaces SS Times, I even don't mind the ads.....and I came back here a week ago looking to fill a local read need, and escape the feeling of being constantly manipulated by the newz (void not necessarily left by the Listener but funds now available).

With ads, quite simply if the audience for both content and ads match then the reader experience is enhanced. The ads are a service or enlightenment rather than an invasion. The 'anyones money will do' approach to advertising, best exemplified in small local papers noisy, jam packed back pages benefits noone.

  • Hard News: A cog in the Mediaworks machine, in reply to Russell Brown,

There’s no reason at all that she should make herself unemployed (or even refuse an opportunity). Jesus, it’s not like they’re eating babies in the morning.

Yes, indeed. Shouldn't have strung those two seperate thoughts together.

I mean to say that working on the Mediaworks oeuvre doesn't mean one inevitably has to be hoovered down into a potentially toxic sump a la Scout never to breath unfouled air again.....does it?

The young woman on Paul Henry is Perlina Lau, she is woth so much more than being "the social media chick"

From the bits 'n' pieces 'n' edges I have heard (radio) she manages to keep her dignity amongst the shenanagins. However there is not an inevitability to working in these environments-professionals can conscientiously eject.

So …. what does it say if shallow recycled entertainment news is popular in NZ?

It says Keewees prefer Kool-Aide over Raro.
