Current company not expected to comment on that.

No, that’s a piece of bait far too tempting not to rise to. We all know who Joanne Black’s husband works for – build a bridge to the 21st century where femme-bots are no longer retired for holding jobs without permission from their man-trollers and get the fuck over it. Please. At last.

Uh. I don't think it's drawing a long bow to say that they might well share some beliefs as many married couples do. No one's saying she 'seeks permission' from her Kev for anything. Bit over-sensitive there. It's current company who can't comment for employment reasons I was thinking of.

Being a lot patronising, dear. Cease and desist. 1) I’ve had a long standing objection to that canard against Black, and it becomes no more endearing because it’s couched in the passive-aggressive voice. 2) I see no reason to change my mind because my by-line happens to be in this week’s issue – due to a commission from Arts and Books Editor Guy Somerset not Black, FWIW.

No that wasn't patronising at all. Do carry on

Not what I was talking about either. Hard to believe, I know.

  • Gregor Ronald,

Emma, we had a similar experience in February. A friend's son's wedding on a beach in Northland, several swims in the sea, lovely lunches with friends, back to Christchurch - and bump, 22nd February on the 7th floor of the UC library! The biggest mood wrecker ever.

You'll bounce back, but there are definitely weeks where the spirit is a bit watery. That's the human brain adjusting, I reckon, like in dreams but awake - absorbing new inputs, rewriting memories and values to make the internal model fit the external model.

Still, it is really shitty, isn't it?

Quite the understatement! Like the sign on Dyers Rd at the moment that says "Earthquake Damage", which made me laugh. Imagine if we started signposting all the earthquake damage, the world doesn't have enough signs! And it's just about impossible to express in words just how annoying, depressing and frightening it can be, living here.

I hope things are OK at your place, Gregor.

Wasn't Craig saying he was trying to listen, earlier? Or does that only apply on Emma's threads?

At least it is a reprieve from the complaint that fireworks don't last as long as they used to?

I was also talking about taking ownership of one's one bullshit -- and don't bloody tell me that throwing that shit at Black (however sotto voice it may be) would be tolerated for a moment around here if her husband happened to work for Phil Goff. One of the more pleasant features of PAS is that it's relatively free of the Kiwibogian/Sub-Standard sliding scale for sexism, depending on whether you like the politics (actual or perceived) of the woman concerned.
