To put things in perspective: as of 2016, NZ had accepted only <a href="https://www.immigration.govt.nz/about-us/what-we-do/our-strategies-and-projects/supporting-refugees-and-asylum-seekers/refugee-and-protection-unit/new-zealand-refugee-quota-programme" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">33000</a> <em>refugees</em> in total <strong>since World War 2</strong>, but had had more than that number of <em>immigrants</em> in the past <strong>year</strong> alone.
