So, if we take a leaf out of Charlie Stross's novel Rule 34, where the big supermarkets were nationalised; a future government may be tempted to nationalise Sky in order to get a public broadcaster!

I guess people are more expensive, but there must be some hidden (or at least non obvious) cost that accounts for this. It's certainly not the technical side of production, which seems like it's more accessible now than ever before.

I realise that Maori Television has been argued for as a proxy PSB but, like the SBS, it has a a more specific cultural brief than a PSB which is funded to provide broad and diverse audiences.

Any idea how TV Central and Choice channels are coping? After the demise of TVNZ7 there are very few channels I find worthwhile watching on Freeview.
