  • Rich Lock,

Oh, and by the way: how come when I link the the Harold's 'your views' (pg 5, 2.37PM), everyone ignores it, but when Josh links to it (pg 6, 3.42PM), everyone goes crazy. Do I smell or something?

  • Mark Harris,

Aussie to Kiwi "So why are you guys so interested in Anzac Day anyway?"
Kiwi response "Well ... um ... what do you think the N Z in Anzac stands for?"

Oh, yeah. It's all about them, eh?

  • Russell Brown,

Doctor (and very Daily Show-esque "chief medical contributor") answers inevitable Fox News host question about whether or not to immediately close the border with Mexico.

    And he's not half bad.

They should have doctors on Fox News more often.

NB: Clip also contains perversely gratifying mention of New Zealand.

  • nzMM,

A good article on the swine flu:

    http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17026-swine-flu-what-you-need-to-know.html

    I'll cut and paste some:

"The bad 1918 pandemic was an H1N1 virus, and there is evidence that people exposed to earlier human H1 flu had some immunity to it. The 1918 virus was different from this one, however, because its H surface protein was from birds."

Some ways to go before we all get too concerned, me thinks.

    That's odd. I hear a voice, but I can't see anybody.

(Sorry, when somebody links the DPF cesspool or Yourviews, I'm on strict doctor's orders not to click thereon. Nothing personal.)

Shouldn’t someone be quickly putting a whole lot of portable ferns around the front gates of Rangitoto College?

Come on people; there are easy Tourist Dollars to be made here.

  • Russell Brown,

No, don't be daft! Lets just verbatim quote the UTTERLY UNINFORMED OPINION OF SOME RANDOM MOUTH WHO HAPPENED TO BE ON THE PLANE! WHAT A FUCKING GREAT IDEA! HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!

Where's Luke? I'd like to apologise.

  • Matthew Poole,

To all those who're yawning and saying "Here's another SARS", I'd like to point to this article. It took H5N1 a couple of years to break three-figure mortality numbers in any country. Mexico's Minister of Health is now stating 103 deaths, and that's in a matter of weeks. This is not another SARS, though whether it achieves global pandemic status is a different matter.

  • Tom Beard,

Well, I had tended to agree that the media coverage hadn't been completely over the top, but then I made the mistake of turning on TV3 News. "The spread of Swine Flu symptoms"? By which you mean "Random people around the country with a bit of a cough"? Sheesh, this swine has jumped the shark.

Facebook friends should not be stealing jokes. Just sayin'.

Sorry Giovanni, hadn't seen your fb comment until now. It was the combination of swearing and planes in Rich's comments that trigger mine.

No worries, I've been passing as mine your much better joke about marinating the immune system in alcohol as a precaution.

  • Christopher Dempsey,

Capitalism/Mactional/The Business Roundtable/EMA/etc have a lot to answer for over this particular behavioural pattern where the 'pillock' with the nasty flu struggles into work.

Yes, comrade, because nobody is ever ill in our planned Socilaist utopia. Now get back to work in your factory before I call the commissars!

LOL errr, yes well - I didn't plan for it to come out like that... LOL

    You mean SARS here, right?

And I agree about the numbers, either way. This might not be 1918 all over again, but I wouldn't like to be in Mexico City right now.

  • Tom Beard,

Hey Bob, I'm a bit confused: by "found this site" do you mean "built this site" or "was paid to promote it"? And by "informative" do you mean "exploitative"?

Hey Tom! That's quite confrontational. Someone else pointed to the same site on page 6. Where were you then? Where was Bob for that matter? And I think we decided it was someone called Bruce.

Nah, I'm with Tom. First time caller, dodgy site... Smells fishy.

  • Russell Brown,

Tom, I think Bob's saying he's found this sight and it might add something to this thread. He's contributing something.

I'm not so sure. That site looks a lot like something somebody cooked up to game Google ad revenue.

That was my thought, and when 3410 first posted the link with the question "Who are these people?", I think that 3410 was making the same implication. The site has no information about professional or institutional credentials, and if someone "just happened to stumble across it" there wouldn't seem to be any reason to think it any more informative than known credible sites.

It wouldn't be the first time that someone has turned swine into spam.

Yes Mark - I got that on page 6. I'm just saying that no-one accused 3410 of promoting the site - so why accuse Bob (unless you know something I don't.)

Web of trust - we "know" 3410, but no-one's heard of this bobwilson chappie

Heaven forbid. I was blowing their cover. I didn't want to straight-out accuse, but it looked totally dodgy to me.
