  • Sam F,

    Here's a direct link.

That's what you get when you take a case against a bank, I guess. Unfortunately, I doubt this outcome is going to change Mr Easton's views with regards to the alleged lesbian conspiracy holding the levers of our government and courts.

  • Sam F,

    Yup:

The Human Rights Commission have dismissed Easton’s follow up complaint against the Bank saying that there is no provision in the Human Rights Act giving them the authority to engage the Bank. “That is just a load of dog’s bollocks” says an unreserved Easton.

“The reason I am in all of these proceedings is because the errors I complain about are simply indefensible. What we have instead and in place is this intricate system where those who run it elect how it will function for their own benefit and protection rather than administrating through due process, natural justice and fairness. It is simply mind boggling that anyone wants to let the Bank get away with what they did. They abused the intelligence and integrity of all New Zealand saying only white dads hit children”.

  • Steve Parks,

I don't recall the ad easton refers to, but in internal communications the BNZ were always referring to that campaign as being one aimed at reducing domestic violence and abuse in general.

The banks' have lost a few couple of big cases recently. I guess you don't see many private cases against a bank go to court, because the Banking Ombudsman is the generally the better option. Anyway, I doubt the costs were awarded against Easton because of the bank's highly paid lawyers, so much as it was just so obviously a silly case.

wow, reading that reminds me a whole lot of The Castle. "there is no one section... it's... just the vibe... of the thing".

Should have said "a bloody stupid case against a bank" - I didn't mean it was a case of justice being bought outright by BNZ, just that bringing a poorly-researched and frivolous case against a serious corporate legal team tends to end in tears.

  • Russell Brown,

I recall Al at Scoop telling me once there were only two groups whose releases they didn't publish as per usual.

One was the neo-Nazis, and the others were the men's rights groups. The latter appeared to be the most immune to reason.

More, or less, immune to reason than these nutbars?

  • Islander,

DeepRed, that is scary scary stuff: our lot-like Dad4justice- are nasty but just puerile disorganised nuts...that lot? Shudder.

Sacha - is it that Ozzies are so much larger? That their Paul Henrys are hugely more offensive?

  • Joe Wylie,

John "Blackshirt" Abbott packed it in a few years back and retired to the Gold Coast, after which his Melbourne-based followers kind of shuffled into oblivion. A few years ago the SMH's Good Weekend dug him up for an interview, in which he discussed such issues as celibacy. It wasn't as if he lacked opportunities, like, just that he didn't want to "make an adulteress" of anyone.

Anyway, quasi-fascist imagery is sooo 2002. The local angry-dad variant is more in the vein of the UK Fathers4Justice, where you rent a superhero party costume and spend the rest of your sad existence bathing in the afterglow of having worn it in public.

Whilst I would not offer any particular endorsement of this bunch - for the sake of balance Fathers4Justice.

  • Steve Barnes,

I'm just over in the UK and within moments of arriving I found myself disgusted by the new ingrained racism (since the July 7th bombings that, curiously, occured the last time I were here) and with it comes the same pro male pro right wing bollocks I hoped were things of the past. AND... to add to that I have yet to find anything approaching decent coffee. So Iwwill go back into the achives of PAS, the arbiter of all things good, and smell the coffee.
Talk to me guys, it's sad and lonlely here and I am surrounded by the sick and dying.

That's some seriously bad coffee. The only advice I can give until the expertise of the ex-pats living in the UK arrives is that you might have to be highly specific about what you want in your coffee, so the question is can you find somewhere which has the slightest flexibility about the menu. Then you can possibly train them to make it how you like.

What city are you in, and how do you like it?

  • Heather Gaye,

Was in London for June. I can feel your pain.

If you're in London, you'll have to head into the west end. Monmouth and Bar Italia are still really good, but Flat White, on Berwick St, is not only the best coffee in London, but possibly the best coffee I've ever had.

I usually favour flat whites, but I rapidly switched to double espresso while I was there.

..while I was in London, I mean. Obvs noone except Flat White knows what a flat white is, but generally anything with milk in it was way too milky & insufficiently coffee-y.

  • Heather Gaye,

Apropos of Fathers' groups: I reckon there's probably a place for such a support / lobby group, given they seem to arise from some quite heartbreaking-sounding stories.

However, I'm not sure if it's telling or just extremely unfortunate that they turn so militant. Either they're ruining their message by getting so aggro that people are scared of them, or they were *always* the kind of guys that former partners don't want near their kids.

  • Sacha,

The good men's groups are either not seeking or getting media attention. The ones who most fit the convenient media template of conflict and noise are the d4j's and blackshirts of the world.

For an example ofd the good guys, Auckland's Rex McCann has spent decades building the Essentially Men workshops and network and quietly fostering the movement along with many others throughout the country.

Why was Dad4justice praying with and counselling the couple in the Christchurch murder case? There must be a story there.

  • Just thinking,

I often see a searching for meaning & community. To a greater or lesser extent religion (or the Golf Club) offers this.
Not wanting to push any particular group, but we're social animals and it does seem to be a void in modern life.

Media7 ran an interesting piece about book publishing last night. I don't know anyone with a kindle device. Does anyone?
I've never been to London and LMFAO hearing people bleat about how horrible it is to be there. It's sooooo Remuera Morrison.

<quoe>Why was Dad4justice praying with and counselling the couple in the Christchurch murder case? There must be a story there.</quote>

It's er, in that story you linked to

A Christchurch man who spent three years helping the couple fight to regain custody of their three children said yesterday they used to pray together in the lounge of the Wainoni Rd house.

Peter Burns, who runs the Dad4Justice blog, was the Family Court advocate for the dead woman and the man accused of her murder.

The couple contacted Burns through the internet when they moved from Taupo to Christchurch about three years ago.

The woman told Burns that Child, Youth and Family (CYF) had removed their children after she asked them for support.

"They had come to Christchurch for a fresh start ... . She was a lovely girl and I was encouraging her to get herself together to get her children back."

Burns continued to coach the couple to build a stable family unit so they could win back their children.

"We used to pray together in the lounge.

"Initially, I didn't want to help them because their case looked too hard but something in me said I had to help, I had to help the underdog."

The fact that they're not sold in New Zealand might contribute to the dearth.

T'other day, I walked past two MRAs with megaphones on the corner of Wellesley and Queen Streets. I did my best not to listen, but managed to hear 'well, a woman gets all the money in the divorce *and* all the kids and never has to work again!' or some such bollocks.

Also: this thread has... a lot going on.
