  • recordari,

Beyonce does Prince's Beautiful Ones and segues into Sex is On Fire by KOL at Glastonbury. Once you open that lid, there's just no closing it. You have been warned.

  • Rich Lock,

That A.Skillz remix of California Soul really is irresistable. My toes suffered inadvertent involuntary entrainment. I may even have bobbed my head.

Did I ever tell you about the time I saw Destiny's Child at the Houston Rodeo for seventeen dollars? There was a flaming hoop involved.

No, funnily enough, you didn't. That sort of street cred is impossible to falsify.

Was it the one where they did this?

  • Rich Lock, in reply to Jeremy Andrew,

At my stage of life, hair to whip and a neck that will support a decent 'edbangin' session are the stuff of memories.

Now, where did I leave my zimmer frame...

Edit: I was entrained enough to wave my bald spot back and forth to the second one of those tunes. Oh, the horror.

I saw Sonic Youth encore with the opening chords of 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' and then IGGY CAME ON STAGE AND SANG IT.

    Vids or it didn't happen.

  • Hebe,

Way back in the dark ages, Iggy apparently appeared out the murk at the Androids gig at the British in Lyttelton and got onstage.
A weird one: I saw The Troggs at the Quinns Post in Lower Hutt in 1981. The bar barn was practically empty. Troggs were fat and fortyish and desperate. They played for barely an hour and did Wild Thing at least three times to fill up the set.

    Apparently it did.

    Bloody hell that's awesome!!

A few of us took Iggy to The Cook Street Markets party in 1980 (it was his birthday and we'd had a cake and a few glasses of the nasty plonk NZ called wine back then, so we were a bit pissed). Th'Dudes were onstage, part of the way through The Passenger - the ig walked up to the stage and just leered at Peter, who stopped mid-phrase.

Iggy declined the offer to go up, as he was in a go-to-the-bar mood but the band played no more Pop covers that night (they used to do a few).

Amazing really. I still rate his first BDO appearance in 2006 (shit that seems unlikely!) as one of the best live shows I've seen. He ripped the space between audience and performer to shreds, and then filled it with water and had a bath in it. 26 years later!!

Didn't hear much about this year's BDO appearance. Oh right, I was there, hiding under the stand from the rain, and not being bothered to fight my way into the 'D'.

That's just so... rock 'n' roll. Being on Iggy's hit-list is probably about as much street cred as is humanly possible.

My stepson was pointed by Iggy at that BDO as a particularly good hell-raiser. I don't know whether we should be proud.

I was distinctly underwhelmed, but it was pleasant enough.

As a regular concert goer I would say, hell yeah.
As a parent of three promising 'hell-raisers', I'm not so sure either.

    it was pleasant enough.

It seems possible that if you looked up 'damning with faint praise' it would have this as an example, particularly when used to describe Iggy Pop. But yes, you are not the first to say this.

Parenting is complex. Not a situation that twit Nigel Latta would have to deal with I bet.

  • recordari,

Oh look, we've made a Friday post last a whole week. Anyway, while we wait patiently (cough) for the next one, this has certainly been a good revival of all things Elvis Costello.

It's a perfect, if a bit chilly, day in Auckland. Here's one for the road.

And I didn't even have anything to do with it! And I'm listening to the bonus disc of King of America RIGHT NOW!

I feel like a bit of an Elvis-booster failure, TBH.

Well, shit, if we're in Scary Elvis Mode, have a cover of One of the Scariest Songs Ever:

Then my mind just walked away"

    Shudder.
