  • Craig Ranapia, in reply to Russell Brown,

I should have followed John Drinnan's advice and stayed well clear of those blog things.

Jeebus, bitch needs to harden the fuck up. Isn't amazing how all those potty-mouth interwebz weirdoze have crushed the dissent of the media reporter of New Zealand's largest newspaper? Poor darling...

  • recordari,

Under that heading it seems that someone should play a track by The Jam.

And not the obvious one. Channeling some anger for Christchurch.

In the city, in the city
In the city there’s a thousand things I want to say to you

For those not playing at home, here is Drinnan's whine (last heading on page) about how those big bad interweb peoples called him names.

But a Herald item about taxpayer funding for Ladyhawke prompted such howls of indignation on the musos' website dubdotdash, I felt obliged to take part and the experience confirmed my impressions about blog debates.
    ...

Inevitably the Ladyhawke debate was peppered with personal invective and swearing.

And here's the blog post by Peter McLennan he complained about (where you'll notice no such behaviour ever happened).

Those uppity peasants having opinions of their own! No longer being able to control the whole conversation sure is getting to some soft hacks, isn't it (happy now, John)?

  • Bruce Wurr,

Oh Bernard, Bernard......great New Order track Russell, his improvisation is simultaneously cringe inducing, fascinating and car crash like. But great though!

Don't think they were ever the best band at jamming.....

The intro/bridge is remarkably similar to that of a certain Sex Pistols song. The subject matter is no less relevant.

  • Tamsin6,

The lovely Ayesha Kee (Bella Kalolo) will be staying in my house (on the floor if I don't get organised to sort out a spare bed by next weekend) after her stint at Glasto and can't wait to hear how it goes for her. Just hope she packed her gumboots!

    Indeed. It was interesting, at least to me, to note that;

    well, er, landcheck tells me
that here in Shirley I live in
    a pocket of pretty green...

Paul Weller makes a fist of Economics 101:

    PRETTY GREEN (Paul Weller)
I've got a pocket full of pretty green -
I'm gonna put it in the fruit machine -
I'm gonna put it in the juke box -
It's gonna play all the records in the hit parade -
This is the pretty green - this is society -
You can't do nothing - unless it's in the pocket
    - oh no -
I've got a pocket full of pretty green -
I'm gonna give it to the man behind the counter -
He's gonna give me food and water -
I'm gonna eat that and look for more -
And they didn't teach me that in school -
It's something that I learnt on my own -
That power is measured by the pound
    or the fist -
It's as clear as this oh -
I've got a pocket full of Pretty Green!

I imagine many will be living in A Town Called Malice.

The ghost of a steam train - echoes down my track
It's at the moment bound for nowhere -
    just going round and round
Playground kids and creaking swings -
    lost laughter in the breeze
I could go on for hours and I probably will -
but I'd sooner put some joy back
    in this town called malice.

  • Simon Grigg,

I'm a long vocal Elvis fan, but this cover is may not work (from his current US tour):

The ABBA link goes further though. He was quite open about the fact that he lifted the the piano line from Dancing Queen for this:

That's definitely on my 'please God don't cover this song' list. Meaning even God would mess it up. Still can't watch the video without welling up.

    As apposed to Wellering up.

(the original from Monty Python precursor – Do not adjust your set )

and be sure to check out this full colour version from Magical Mystery Tour (probably NSFW as it contains a tame ’60s strip routine by Jan Carson, Beatles and world class facial contortions by Viv Stanshall)
