  • Charles Mabbett,

we ARE sooo spoilt for choice down here in Wellington.

I feel for you Auckland punters having to make do with groups like those Smiths copyists Cut of Your Fingers.

  • Richard Irvine,

Cool stuff? Check out Chuck Klosterman's Chinese Democracy review.

"Reviewing Chinese Democracy is not like reviewing music. It's more like reviewing a unicorn."

"...the result is an overstuffed maelstrom that makes all the punk dolts scoff. His ambition is noble, yet wildly unrealistic. It's like if Jeff Lynne tried to make Out Of The Blue sound more like Fun House, except with jazz drumming and a girl singer from Motown."

Frightening. I've hated every single thing I've ever heard from G&R. Mediocre, energyless sub-glam, sub-metal. I'd listen to Iggy dancing on ugly Axl's grave but that's about all.

  • Vaughn Davis,

Funny, but in a year working on Canta I never knew Denis Glover once edited it. Thanks for the clip... I've always admired him and now feel a rather nice, albeit tenuous, connection. Lovely end to the week.

  • Jackie Clark,

Also, is it wrong of me to want that house with a fiery passion? I mean, I really really want it. (Apart from the lounge suite. But I would keep everything else!)

I completely agree. I love those interior carpeted stairs. God, I miss the 70's.....

Say hi to Nick Spelling Mistake from Pete & Jo in nelson!

Forgot Sorry, but I did say hello to him and the evening was great. Alastair (Proud Scum) nearly took his head off jumping around on the stage and was thankful we told him at the end of the night :) I am amazed I remember the whole gig . Thoroughly good night had by all I was with although I did loose a few people along the way but interestingly found some others I hadn't seen for years. My fav for the evening would have to go to Proud Scum with Spelling Mistakes coming in second. But , all were great.Well worth it. My head hurts a wee bit.....

Now, that would be something. (Hey, shouldn't this be on Emma's thread? What with talk of polyamory and all.)

I've had a swag of photos sent thru or Facebooked to me. Most of my old comrades in arms are looking a bit grey around the edges. It kinda hits you when you don't see them daily as you used to.

I was mostly surprised that hair/ colour looked natural. i mean, felt a bit odd having bright red, but not that I particularly care, and not that I did it for the gig, and it was nice that I saw people I hadn't seen for 30 years and they looked just the same, and they (politely I'm sure) thought the same of moi. There was definitely a bit of grey but all good.
Now the Headless Chickens are playing straight across the road from my local this week and last night has inspired me to seriously consider going to that also :)

    Agreed

Here's a couple known to a few PAers looking a wee bit grayer but all the better for it

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

    Agreed
    Here's a couple...

The shades were necessary as it got dark about 9 and any pre meet/drinks before required them, as you do. Man, there was a lot of Docs. I couldn't decide which of mine to wear. My choice is green, black ox blood and Stewart tartan which were the ones I eventually chose. Ahhh, 'twas a good un. :)

Mine was Nick from the Spelling Mistakes, although Proud Scum doing the Sex Pistols, and Scavengers tied for a close second...

I was a bit young so never saw any of them live 'back then' . But I've had my authentic punk rock concert now, even got told to "Fock off" by the angry little guy in the orange Beagle Boys jumper :-). 'twas a good un indeed....

  • Russell Brown,

Thanks for the AK79 reports. I generously let someone else have my ticket, and spent the evening screen industry schmoozing at the SPADA do. That got old by about 9.45, and I grabbed a cab home and had an early night.

Turned out the reason I was so tired was that I had the spring flu coming on ... blah. Gurgle.

  • Alan Perrott,

player of the day had to be Kerry Buchanan. the dial went to 11 from his first gob. he's the drummer the Stooges never had.

prop of the night, the german helmet.

tracks of the night, First in Line and Suicide II.

and hotdamn, but the Features are timeless. looking forward to the album.

and and, huge props to Jon Baker for putting it all together. give that man a medal.
