  • giovanni tiso,

I think you also need to be commended for not falling asleep in the presence of Chris Laidlaw.

(That's assuming you actually didn't fall asleep at any point during the discussion.)

I won't be at all surprised if Rodney Hide tries to do a Greater London Council on Len Brown if he wins.

  • Russell Brown,

This just in: The Aucklander's editor Ewan Macdonald won't be joining us on Media7 after all, the kibosh having apparently been put on by his CEO.

Make of that what you will.

Do hope you'll be leaving out the empty chair of shame, then closing the show something like this...

    something like this...

Surely that should win some 'mansplain' award?

Can you get Rod Oram instead - as a journo who has shown he can get his head around this topic?

Oh, Russell is infinitely funkier that Lawrence Welk. Merely offering some suggestions...

I don't think there is anyone more qualified than Macdonald to answer some questions about that increasingly fragrant "People's Referendum". Still, I guess this isn't the first time someone in the media has proved that accountability and transparency is for other people. :(

Well, no. The idea was to talk about what The Aucklander's doing, and apparently that's not possible any more.

And since Macdonald says he was told not to front by his CEO, have you ever had the editors of The Herald or Herald on Sunday on? And if not, is it just Media7 or does Mediawatch get the cold shoulder from APN too -- not a very good look from a stable that is such a major player in New Zealand's largest print media market.

Quite - was thinking salvage. As you were.

HoS? Absolutely: both Shayne Currie and editor-in-waiting Bryce Johns.

Herald? Forget it. Tim Murphy has turned us down repeatedly, on the basis that the paper says its piece in its editorials. (Conveniently, this means that no one ever gets to ask the editor of the New Zealand Herald any pesky questions.)

Although John Roughan did join us once, and Patrick Gower while he was there. Rudman and Audrey Young are shy of television in general.

Indeed, and whether or not you believe Macdonald got an order from upstairs not to front, I've got to wonder what the hell they were so scared you were going to ask.

The first question I had written down was "Who is Our Auckland?"

Almost worth doing a show about them not fronting. Could probably get that RNZ contributor from the weekend at pretty short notice - he wouldn't be afraid to speak out.

Oh come on, you can always write a letter to the Editor , or was that replaced with Your Veiws? (sic)

    That would be sooo cool. It would also be cool if FB and Twitter had an 'Online Reputation Enhancement' algorithm that grades posts on the basis of;
10= You're about to become Stephen Fry.
1= Your continued irrelevance is guaranteed. In fact, you just lost 10 followers and have no friends.

That would be gold (ORE, get it?)

  • Craig Ranapia,

And now, Morning Report is treating The Aucklander's 'Our Auckland' "poll" as news. Fuck. Looks like Auckland correspondent Todd Niles and Geoff Robinson score a big fat journalism FAIL.

  • Whoops,

On a probably unrelated note... I received a letter drop from the local MP (Maungakiekie) which is a 'survey'.

The survey to be returned has my name and address on it - presumably from the electoral (t)roll. The questions are fairly leading, and include asking who I would vote for if an election were held today.

"The information is being collected by [the MP] in his capacity as a member of parliament to be used for the electorate and related activity"

    ?related activity?

I't s come from the National Party presumably, though the house of representative's seal is also present.

Yes it is, and the best course of action is to file it away in the bin.
