  • merc, in reply to Matthew Poole,

"So, no, we can’t leave their “logic” to lie, because there is no logic and certainly there’s no sign of anything resembling fiscal rectitude."

Matthew, I was being heavily sarcastic. This RONS thing of all the evil things this Govt. has done, is the most glaringly stupid and cynical. Joyce should be investigated.

Reformed hardened recidivist criminal likes the budget.

Maybe he should join ACT - although most of their crims aren't reformed.

It was Local and outside Iwi that negotiated a fair deal for the workers.

    "fair" being a euphemism for:

"It's affected our kids, the farmers, our customers. He's come into my community and ripped friends and families apart".

Striking Wairoa worker Dana Irwin on Talley's chief executive Peter Talley.

Bryce always goes well beyond the Herald's writers. Recommend his daily column (also published elsewhere) as a great single place to start if you're interested in NZ politics.

"Fair" being Iwi helped the staff to retain unionism, and security of their jobs and pay. So in a sense the workers got what they were asking for. I imagine Iwi having a contract with Talley's regarding Fisheries might have helped Talley's management see better light.

And there's still the possibility that iwi can filibuster or even halt the asset sales process.

Sadly some seem happy if there is something in it for them. Fairly, some are against and I really hope they succeed.

Tribes arnt democracies. I hate, viscerally hate, some of the decisions my tribe has made. Regrettably, tribal representatives are prechosen & nurtured by an established hierarchy (which is why I ceased voting in tribal elections in the early 2000s.)

The processes *will* sick up all over the establishment with up&coming-at-’em generations – but I’m going to be dead just then

WHICH IS NOT TO SAY &EMPHASIZE the fact that Kai Tahu has done some profoundly good things over the past 14 years – and will do more-

You're not wrong. Only avowed white supremacists are allowed to run about in the wilderness playing sillybuggers with guns without arousing the anxieties of the defenders of Mr & Mrs Whitebread.

    And Johnkey says...

"If you were really going to go out and buy a country, why wouldn't you want to buy New Zealand?

"Would you really want these other countries that are highly indebted, have hugely inflexible and inefficient systems, don't have the natural resources that we have, don't have the potential that we have."

Mr Key, speaking to the TransTasman Business Circle in Auckland...

If you were going to buy a country. Hmmm. Does he know of one for sale?.
I wonder if he was saying that at the National Party's northern regional convention in Auckland. At "The Sky City Convention Centre"
Apparently Sky City are short of convention centres and pokie machines so the Natsies do their AGM there.
    Nah, just a coincidence eh?
