be all Mike Moore about it
It'll be a long, cold night... oh, never mind. I'm too discouraged to even make mean jokes.

Power cuts ahead...
it's looking likely that the Govt will have egg
on its face over Hubbard enquiry
...couldn't happen to a nicer bunch!
Here's hoping they have to pay damages
out of their own pockets... -
people are sick to the back teeth with being treated with smug reverse snobbery for daring to disagree with a certain socially liberal POV
What, that all people are equal, and deserve to be treated equally?
That's not "a certain socially liberal POV" - its the absolute core of left-wing thinking.

Ah, Hubbard debacle.
What seasoned senior financial wizard reporter Fran O'Sullivan reported was...said Feeley.
"I expected a preliminary report will be with me by next week, and I stress preliminary report," "This will state there is no offending, or we still need to do more work on this or there are matters that will be charged.
"I cannot give an indication - but we are well advanced."In other words "No Comment"
But she took that to mean "there is no offending"?
I hope she knows more than she is reporting. -
Back to the central idea that Russell floated, I think some hard localism would do well.
Labour would also do well to remember not to patronise communities too heavily by parachuting in untested aparatniks into safe seats, but instead use people with well established public mana and integrity. Shearer was sufficiently the latter to underline himself.
The Greens could also do well to learn from this - their Australian counterparts have put up a former Australian of the Year in a close senate race. It's not out of the question to win an electorate seat if they do it right.
People want people they can trust and believe in. I want people I can trust and believe in.
-
And further to my last point, Labour needs to grow these candidates well before they're needed, or work with genuine local heroes. I don't know who Labour have planned in Mana or Manurewa, but I'll bet they're people unknown to the great majority of the community.
-
If they would only base their leadership on the ability to deflect yes/no questions on 7Days, then David Shearer and Jacinda Ardern would be a shoe in. On that note, if you type 'Jacinda' in Google it helpfully predicts you mean 'Ardern' without any prompting. That's some serious googling going on there.
-
I agree with George they need to pick a good local, because they are also running against the legacy of Chris Carter who for all his faults is the man who won Te Atatu even though the electorate swung well right of the Labour Party. He was the local MP respected enough that Te Atatu chose him despite him being in the Labour party and now their guy is in the process of getting fired for speaking a certain amount of truth (though in an underhand way) about Phil Goff's leadership.

Only if you do it in New Zealand, internationally she's not in the top ten at least. And how many high-profile Jacindas could there be in New Zealand?

I did sort of know that. It was an attempt at humour. So, not funny? Oh well, I'll burn that one.
[Just in case it wasn't painfully obvious, the word 'googling' was a pun] -
You made me check and with Giovanni I'm number five. Five! Oh boy...

Work to do then? Poor Russell isn't on the first page. What the hell have 'Brand' 'Norman' and 'Crowe' got to do with anything?
ETA: It's that damn blog of yours. I suggest you spend less time perfecting every post to the nth degree and just throw it out there willy nilly. Or in more simple terms, your last post was bloody brilliant.

I just got an eMail from a mate, the gist of which follows...
Hi all,
Please take some time to read the message below. This important safety message applies not only to our colleagues but to family and friends also.
Please forward on to all those who might be able to modify their driving on these days.
Many Thanks,
Glenn
Newmarket Viaduct Team Members,
On the weekend of 4th and 5th September we will be closing the southbound carriageway of SH1 in the vicinity of the Newmarket viaduct to carry out the necessary works to enable us to open the new southbound bridge by Monday 6th September. To avoid major disruption on the surrounding arterial road network it is essential to avoid driving anywhere in Auckland during the weekend unless absolutely essential.
Due to the enormous task of getting our message across to the whole of Auckland and the surrounding areas, we are requesting that everyone forward this HTML email to as many people as possible.
I ask you to forward this email to any schools, sports clubs, etc in order to get our message across.
Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your assistance
Ian Harbeck

Northern Gateway Alliance OfficeAh, thinking outside the square. Beats putting it in Te Herald, who'd believe it?.

WRT TeAtatu
Even if CC stays and wins as an independent , I can't imagine him swinging to the right just for fun,(or is he a narcissist) so why would it matter in parliament?I mean MMP is about numbers, not particular parties as has been shown. Laila Harre will try for TeAtatu surely. Could she be a Labour candidate if the party needs faithful Labour. Alliance and Labour have always been in each others pockets anyway? -
"all those who might be able to modify "
Where to start the modification.
It's self-modification you want.... right?
I'll Googlemapit. -
Tried to Edit a link into that but failed...

"all those who might be able to modify their driving"
I had thoughts.
"OK, I'll drive Drunk" -
perhaps as a Progressive
I had wondered about that. But if Jim gets the mayoral chains and leaves parliament, does the JAPP disappear with him? And is he ok with gay people, or are they Evil, like drugs?

Um, you do know that National haven't manage to impose FPP yet, and we're still on MMP. Which means that even if Labour carry off all the trophy seats, their majority still depends on the party vote.
Or is this part of Goff's barely hidden two (three? four?) election strategy? Use the next two or three elections to get some reasonable talent into the house, in preparation for a Labour government in 2014 or 2017.

I'm absolutely aware of this. But it's also a fact that people identify with their local MPs, and that you neglect electorates at the peril of your party vote. Electorates with a strong local candidate receive much higher party votes in my experience. A smaller party might decide to put all or most of their resources into the party vote, but a larger one has the option, and I'd argue they should take it.
-
True but I would then work on getting someone like Laila to front for Labour as she is well known and seems reasoned lefty middle of the road.Or give it to Phil Twyford.
-
Well, they better get someone both local and esteemed locally for Southern Maori because we have ratshit representation (Maori Party)
and no political voice at the moment. If Tahu would take it on... -
2 more electorates to sort so here's hoping Islander. I reckon it will happen. :)

Be it so Sof'!

Oh, well, thank you kind sir. I blame the subject though. And Stephen. (When in doubt, always blame Stephen.)
