The GFC has not been kind to old rockers’ pension funds, hence a few summer gigs in a pleasant holiday destination to pay for a break. Each on their own merits, and the tours mean a few bucket list entries…

Not enough of these acts and bands make to the S Island unfortunately. In days of old, Christchurch would get 'spillover' from the BDO but that rarely happens now. We lack permanent sizeable venues, the quakes saw to that.

Wouldn't it be great though to have a mini-Laneways in Christchurch…

The clip of Paranoid Russell's posted kicks ass. While no metal fan, there's the odd tune that resonates and this sure is one off 'em. Gosh I'm almost tempted to go ...it's the original band sans Bill Ward the drummer. And Ozzy looks and sounds pretty good as well!

Don't know anything about Pretty Lights but, like Richard, I have my ticket for The Pretty Things. Partly in the interest of historical symmetry, having been at their infamous New Plymouth concert some time last century.

Yes, in that infamous light plane crash in 1982. I had quite forgotten Tony Iommi was left-handed. He lost finger-tips on his middle and ring finger but as result of an industrial accident but successfully compensated by using thimbles and lighter strings to play that signature style of Sabbath's.

I think Ozzy’s solo work is dreck and Sabbath is really a treat for my son, but I thought I’d check out the current touring show on YouTube. Conclusion: it’s GREAT.
Ozzy's early solo work is best, courtesy of Randy Rhoads on the 6-string. Wasn't quite the same after Rhoads…
