hey Jackie and Chris, just so's you know I managed to get to that place yesterday and it indeed contributed to mighty mighty haul.
from him I scored an Aretha Franklin live album from '65, Dionne Warwick gospel album from her Sceptre period, and an Alternative Ulster 7''. As you…

well done that man, I know the very spot.

kicked off my trawl yesterday – filling my boots while the family's away. managed to squeeze in the chazzas of Papakura, Takanini, Manurewa, Papatoetoe and Otara in btwn downpours.
scored a couple of dozen great pieces for about 50c a pop.…

hey Jackie, cheers so much for the tip, will definitely follow up.
If you’re still around on this thread Alan – here’s the yellow villa Jackie’s recommended at Te Aroha, far left of the photo. This a short block up towards the hills from the main street, left instead of…

Was never a great fan of vinyl – fragile and quality seriously degraded after a bit of normal use. I certainly never managed to keep my albums in archival quality.

So in Wellington, never related to the Slow Boat live, and with Real Groovy closed, frankly I found it to…

I wonder if the sale of WeAreHunted to twitter earlier this month will add some sparkle to the music app discovery space. Bandcamp is an awesome service and with the right "front end" it can work very well for musicians. I think the community is still out there – it…

When i was a kid my Mum was good friends with Christine who ran Everyman records in Nelson (they had a travelling puppet theatre). Christine approved of my taste in music and would keep an eye out for things she thought would interest me. She treated me with respect and…

Your mention of Waves struck a chord with me – the album was well played at our student flat in Christchurch in 1975, and over the years I’ve looked for another copy in vain. Big ups to my local record store Evil Genius – a great combination of coffee and…

I used to love record stores. I'd wag school during the late 90s, catch a bus into the city and hang out in Real Groovy and BPM, and other stores for hours, listening and occasionally buying things. Those were genuinely pleasurable days. A couple years later I moved to Wellington,…

When you get to Te Aroha, Alan, go to the Bright Yellow Villa (I can't remember it's name) that sells heaps of Crown Lynn. I seem to remember they had heaps of old vinyl too.

I fessed up $70 for 2 Daptone vinyl releases at Nelson's Everyman Records for Record Store Day today and they came with MP3 coupons to grab the digital version. This is perfect for me as it gives me home play plus the mobility of digital. The digital version will set…

Thanks for the kind words about my rambling essay. Your point in response is well-made. What I was reaching for with "Your online world is one you build around yourself" was how we choose the vast majority of the stuff that pops up on our screens, in contrast to the…

Ohhh, new Beastwars!. See, wouldn't have known that if it wasn't for this community.

And that gives me the perfect excuse to post up the new Black Sabbath track.

I love record stores... or did, not a fan of the Groovy experience but a fan of what it contains...

I do miss stores & those that inhabited them who have shaped my tastes and indulged my purchasing cravings – people who have unwittingly helped make me the person I am…

I won't speak for Morgue who is a writer for us, but price man. Record stores are effing pricey.

And also why not think of a new model? Have the physical albums there, but then have some kind of vending machine so you can flick through album covers, then you…

you're a good man and no mistake. he had this great 70s period where he (and the likes of Les Humphries, I think it was a German thing) used a lot of phased effects, chk his Voodoo Party album.
but that's my white whale de jour.

With the march intro (and outro), I was thinking 'Holidays in the Sun' – better than I imagined! I'll check out Penny Lane Records for the 7".

I've never felt closer to the ground than when I was crowding the counters of mad little stores in Brixton and the West End as the latest platters were slapped on the turntables. That one, mate, I'll have that one playing now.

I won't be but I will likely see him Sunday evening at the Brewery in Chch. Agree, there's something about going into charity shops and delving through their record piles – throuble is getting through all the Nana Mouskouri, Val Doonican, James Last, etc to find that hidden gold!

Delaney Davidson does a cracking live version of Snapper's 'Buddy'.

well – if you're up this way – he's playing at Southbound Records tomorrow at noon, so you could aks him to bang it out.

And it's OK Russell we forgive your abandonment of the light (smiley face? – also…

Yes, I'll be aiming for a copy of that. There's also an Eastern/Beastwars 7" Record Store Day only release coming – what a combination! Wonder if they cover each other songs live? It has been done before, well half at least – Delaney Davidson does a cracking live version of…

I love record shops, and I love owning a physical artifact – I don't own any music in digital-only format, although I will probably make an exception for the L.E.D.'s latest, because they're not going to publish it in a physical format. I dread the day when everything is digital,…
