another successful solar orbit...I've never understood why Auckland and Australia make such a big fuss about my birthday?

Well it would be nice if you showed up for the party Ian. I make the effort on NYE for mine. Jus' sayin' ;).
Many happy solar orbits to you. Hope you…

Laneway has sold out.

There will be 12,000 on site, which suggests the changes to the site have increased its capacity a bit.

and while I’m not as familiar with the acts this year as previous

Nice montage Jackson. Is that Parquet Courts top left? I think it's the unfamiliar that will make this Laneway exciting. Not too bothered by the programme clashes, should be a loada fun whatever the stage! And that…

Five years of Laneway Fest Auckland.

Thanks for sorting out the photo pass Russ. Will be a different experience this year, and I'll try not to let the pressure get to me. :-)

I don't intend to try and cover all acts, as this gets ridiculous, so will follow my…

Parental pride means unless the Thunderdome is packed, I’ll choose RB over CB on Monday

You'll be fine in the Thunderdome if you can get in via backstage — the problem will likely be a long queue for the front door. They manage the numbers reasonably carefully.

Parental pride means unless the Thunderdome is packed, I'll choose RB over CB on Monday, But should still be able to catch the end of her set.

The other big clash for me is Little Dragon vs Belle and Sebastian...

My feeling is that the changes to Cactus Cat are going to have a very positive impact. More space and a flown PA should really improve the experience.

Also really nice that everyone seems to have positively engaged with criticism and made a better experience of it for everyone. Would…

Giving Laneway a miss as I am still befuddled from our travels (London, Wales, Portugal, Spain, Sri Lanka, in 5 weeks).

Enjoy yourself.

But I do have a father and daughter double outing (Conor Oberst and The Felice Brothers) coming up, together with a great opening night for WOMAD 2015…

Megan Whelan's link above reveals all!

the usual agonising scheduling conflicts

Always go to see the one you haven't seen before or are least likely to have a chance of seeing again. Russell gives the example of a Race Banyon / Courtney Barnett clash.

Race Banyon is an NZer, so far more likely to play Auckland…

(I hope you don't mind, Russell. I feel like there's lots of people hanging about PAS who would like this!)

A new generation of bands is emerging from Dunedin.

Fishrider Records' Temporary compilation, released last year, documents the resurgence of a new pop underground in the city, famous…

New riders of the purple sagacity…
I do hope Look Blue Go Purple are getting at least some acknowledgement (if not cash) for the stage named after their big hit!

Well, it looks like they're getting respect from Dunedin City Council.

Hold music ahoy!

The timetable and map for Monday’s Auckland Laneway festival are out and besides the usual agonising scheduling conflicts there are one or two notable changes on the site.
