  • Lucy Telfar Barnard, in reply to nzlemming,

not as yet. The hard copy wasn’t even on Potton’s website yesterday but is now, although ‘out of stock’.

Thanks. I want to make some outraged comment about what millenium we’re in, or something, but my heart’s not in it.

But really, if they can’t distribute the book fast enough to keep up with demand, isn’t an ebook the really obvious solution? Would also make it accessible to people like my Dad, who’s overseas, and would probably buy an e-copy if he could get one, but will instead have to wait till he gets home at the end of September, at which point he’ll probably just borrow it from the library or a friend instead; or to people who don’t live anywhere near any independent bookstores and thus have to spring for postage as well as the already high price of the book itself.

There we go, my heart’s back in it: No ebook??? What Millenium are we in, people?!!

ETA: I withdraw and apologise. Just had a reply from Craig Potton Publishing saying an ebook will be available from Wheelers in 24-36 hours. Turns out we are in this millenium after all. Jolly good!

  • Ross Mason,

Long-time Farrar-watchers will probably concur that that was Farrar in panic mode, trying really hard to appear nonchalant.

He needed a drink of water didn't he. Almost choking on his breath.........

  • Sacha, in reply to Andre Alessi,

I think we'll see firmer denials tomorrow, when they figure out which approach is more likely to convince supporters

And ironically they'll pay Farrar to do the polling on that for them.

  • Rich of Observationz, in reply to Lucy Telfar Barnard,

I suspect that producing and loading an eBook ahead of time would have been to risky as to leaks.

Also, it's easier to suppress in some ways. Did you know Amazon can recall eBooks from anyone's device? Not sure if Wheelers can.

Only just catching up with this but I gather Key is accusing Hager of faking emails. Good grief.

I've read most of the book now and I am horrified -- especially by the paid attack campaigns on public health officials and lobbyists. It's just evil.

But it looks like they're having some success with their Kim Dotcom misdirection. So the system still works.

He said on Morning Report that he had extensive discussions with the person who leaked it to him, negotiating about what would be used and how, so it would be hard to say he didn't know something about them.

It is quite straight forward these days to have extensive discussions with people who remain completely anonymous.

  • Keir Leslie,

Conor Roberts is one of the good guys as well --- and he's the odd one out. Both Pagani and Nash are lower North Island, older, and wankers, whereas Roberts is Auckland/Wellington, younger, and reliable by all accounts. Ach the details are just gossip though really as far as that goes. But Nash and Pagani ffs.

  • SteveH, in reply to Alfie,

The ODT reports Key as saying that it’s “unlikely” he’ll ask Judith Collins if she’d shifted a prisoner at Slater’s request, or even whether she leaked information to Slater.
    ...
The old ‘Either I didn’t know or I can’t recall’ trick.

Another round of "hear no evil, see no evil" is surely going to be a round too many for some.

Sure --- I mean this is just petty gossip, it's not really that important, and also it's kinda invasive, sorry!

    But thank you for clarifying.

  • Rich of Observationz,

    From Kim Dotcom:

For the record: I haven't hacked Whaleoil. I have nothing to do with Hager's book. There will be legal action against Slater & co

Well yes. Accusing someone of hacking (a criminal offence) is libellous unless demonstrably true. It's likely Slater will have to front up in court and produce any evidence he might have.

  • Michael Meyers, in reply to Russell Brown,

Only just catching up with this but I gather Key is accusing Hager of faking emails. Good grief.

He's not quite saying that. His line is pretty consistent from what I've seen. In answering questions about the emails being faked, he's saying that Hager is "a left-wing conspiracy theorist" without a good track record. He's refuting some of the allegations in a limited way (" I'm not involved", "Mr Ede isn't [currently] involved in...", etc).

He's making it appear that nothing is true by his limited denials and letting you draw your own conclusion that the emails must therefore be faked.

It's an allegation of a grievous abuse of ministerial power to help out a mate. And he declares he won't even ask?

If he's allowed to make this a last word, I really do despair.

much like Slater denying "emails" (because they're Facebook chat messages). Catch up, journos.

I really don’t need James landing in this thread and slagging off individuals and the site itself. He can stop that or be banned.

I actually thought James George was making reasonable points in a reasonable manner. His observations on Craig's behaviour appeared to be pertinent.

But perhaps his previous behaviour warranted your need to threaten to ban him.

  • Rosemary McDonald,

When time permits I rather enjoy wandering around the blogosphere, checking out the egos.

Always an added bonus is when voting is allowed on the merit or not of the commentors comments.

An even bigger bonus is observing how the blogger handles those commentors that take an obverse veiw.

    Like here: http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2014/08/the_hager_book-2.html

See how commentor "AG" is dealt to.

    Who is that masked man?????
