  • Russell Brown,

Whoa...I see your "roll" now seems to extend to the illustrious heights of Telecon ... Watch out world here comes RussB

Not me -- credit the Ignite Trust people.

Actually, Pt Chev is somewhere where there is a genuine engineering case for cabinetisation: bad cooper, very long run from the Mt Albert exchange.

Most of the other places they're doing it just happen to be the exchanges where competitors are beginning to install their own equipment -- and where they will now be bypassed.

Just watch how hard it will be for those other ISPs to get their gear in those cabinets. It's unabashedly anti-competitive.

  • Russell Brown,

    Woah! Phishing spam alert!

Just got an email from a bogus address with the subject line:

VERIFY YOUR FREE IHUG MAIL ACCOUNT NOW !!!

Not quite sure what the financial motive is, but it's an obvious attempt to harvest Ihug logins. Unlikely to dupe Public Addressers (yes, like Ihug is really going to email you from a Hotmail address wanting your login), but you might like to warn less sophisticated friends and family.

  • Jeremy Andrew,

I fail to see why I have to act as a go between for them.

I can see exactly why you have to act as a go-between - because you want a connection.
Of course, you shouldn't have to, but you have Hobson's choice. Roll on some kind of competition, not holding my breath though.

  • Hamboy,

It's more the fact that my landline number isn't on telecom's system, even though I they gave me the number last week and I can ring it and here my answer phone message.
Ihug can't fill in a request to get my broadband changed until telecom enter it into their database. I was unaware that it would take the telecom that long and asked ihug to enter a request on monday.
Of course ihug came back, saying that I had given them the wrong details. So I was the one that had to go back to telecom and find out what was going on and tell ihug to try again today, when telecom have stated that it should be ready. (Shouldn't have mentioned I was with another ISP and given them a vodafone phone number as a contact one.)

Surely they can sort this crap out between themselves.

I'm currently waiting for ihug to email me to tell me that it did again and accuse me of giving them the wrong details. ( I just don't have any faith in either of them.)

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
