  • Craig Ranapia,

I think he's absolutely right, even if Palin doesn't withdraw because we're seeing it already. Although I think Obama's statement ( linked to up-thread) was correct and perfectly pitched, I wouldn't blame him if he wouldn't mind putting his boot firmly up Markos Moulitsas' arse.

Fairly or not (and most of the time it's the latter), candidate get tarred with the antics of their respective nutroots. I don't really think there's going to be a major blowback for Obama on this (as opposed to enraging those who were never going to vote for him), but its a distraction he doesn't need.

Yes, but they (Rove's devil spawn) would do that anyway. I have agreed with giovanni but also think Dailykos (which is a community of writers after all) hardly led with this stupid rumour and moved to shut it down pretty quickly as well. They or some other "liberal" would still be cast as the bad guys even if it had not been them who raised it.

It wasn't written by a frontpager, but it stayed on the rec list for several hours, which means the site effectively led with it. But more importantly, it should have been taken down within minutes - people in the comments were screaming for that to happen from the start. It would have been consistent with the site policies and with its past record in these matters. They decided to keep it up simply because they saw a political advantage. (And it's still up, albeit no longer in the rec list).

Sure, and I've said as much. But, seriously, Don, I don't really think that's the bar you want to set. And, like it or not, there's plenty of toxic waste customers out there on all sides -- saying the more demented Kossacks are better or worse than the equally unhinged Ann-droids is missing the point by a significant margin. I put it like this: It's like asking whether you'd prefer to be infected with the Ebola virus or Necrotizing Fasciitis. One turns your internal organs into mush, the other destroys skin and muscle tissue. They're both agonisingly horrible ways to die, so isn't the only rational answer "C) None of the above"?
