RNZ has a delightful podcast from John Campbell delving into the murky world of international tax avoidance, specifically looking at Apple NZ. For the year ending September 2014, the company declared revenue of $568m but only paid tax of $6.8m – because their “cost of sales” in NZ was an amazing $551m or 97% of their revenue.
Surely that can’t be right?
Either mathematically or morally.Go JC!

Campbell Live producer Pip Keane has joined Campbell's RNZ team.
Checkpoint with John Campbell, which launches on January 18, 2016, will be a 90 minute news and current affairs programme, going out on radio and streaming online.

Simon Wilson's feature interview with John Campbell is online -- from November's Metro Magazine.

Just a reminder folks... Checkpoint with John Campbell begins next Monday -- 5-6.30pm on NatRadio. I'm expecting the first show to tackle some serious issues and hopefully set an agenda other media will be forced to follow.

Checkpoint with John Campbell
With the clever tagline "Radio With Pictures".

Crowd seeding and other broadcasts…

It almost behooves him to get Karyn Hay and/or Barry Jenkin to do inaugural voice over intros (and maybe a Fane Flaws theme) – Karyn's & Barry’s voices are as culturally and cerebrally entrenched as John Campbell’s.
(plus that x-factor – trusted voices)another catchcry could be – ‘Refreshingly wireless!!’
that covers all the bases…Speaking of cultural icons this mixed it up nicely…

I’m impressed with their setup, having watched the first section.
Is there any functional need for the giant headphones (eg. which Katrina Batten wears when reading the news), or is that more just to make it look like radio?

Interesting to see the faces of familiar radio voices. Hope it works.

It's actually quite hard to modulate your voice for radio without headphones. She'd want to have a line from the producer anyway.

Fair enough. I just thought it seemed odd for her to wear them in the studio when nobody else in the studio needed them. What to TV newsreaders do?

It's a different skill. You're projecting, rather than being on mic.

bouncing checkpointless...
Hmmm - I don't get it really.
At the base and heart there is Checkpoint the radio show...
I can go to RNZ National web page and listen (with a small delay from radio)
I can also watch the radio show on a 'live feed' there
(Radio with pictures with a much longer delay to radio)
an experience which is akin to watching TV in the 1960s
- there is a certain Thunderbirds feel to it for some reason.
(apparently you can watch it on Freeview channel 50 as well, but that is not mentioned on the web page - though people might rather save their metered bandwidth use - dunno what the delay period is on there either)Why do I have to see it?
I have to engage (tie up) another whole 'sense' and nothing was really added apart from an occasional photo of a burning boat early on - obviously the multi media platform is just to mop up eyes on devices, simultaneous connection is not really rewarded or needed - it all just seems to add a new layer of production and wardrobe costs to radio for little overall benefit. (am I better informed?)First day I know, and I only engaged with the first hour - but I'm unconvinced with the need for multi-platform tv format, great to have John Campbell back as a conduit for sanity though.

At least one person found it more compelling.
Can't say I've shed a tear listening to a @radionz interview until now.
