All Blacks lose, because they are the WORST TEAM EVER AND CAN'T PLAY, AND FRANCE AREN'T THAT GOOD ANYWAY AND OH MY GOD MUCH GNASHING OF TEETH, apocalypse to follow.
You can see why, as a player, you might want to avoid that, and the coaches may want to avoid putting any extra pressure on some fairly young and inexperienced guys.
I'm kind of just happy they won.

I can understand why they wouldn't tell the whole team. Might never be an issue and you want them focused.
Not telling the captain and vice-captain so they can make informed decisions if it becomes an issue? Bizarre.

But really does it matter?
They won a game. We won a game. Now they hold on to the trophy that, in all honesty, doesn't need to exist in the first place. At best it gives us something to win back.

I think avoiding any programme hosted by Tony Whatshisname is a sign of having got one's life priorities right, even if it's after the All Blacks have beaten Australia 50-zip.

I don't know that it doesn't need to exist. I like thefact of the Gallaher Trophy and what it stands for (and I don't much mind that we have to win it back).

Winning the trophy per se is not the biggest issue going around.
What is important though, is that if an All Black team is playing for a trophy you expect them to know what they need to do to win it. As someone else said (on the other thread I think) if you were coaching a school side you’d want them to know.
And Henry’s excuse of not wanting to clutter heads is frankly insulting.
They are professionals.

I thought Shaun Treeby looked pretty handy too. Nice distributor, clever runner, good in contact, no poor options that I can think of.
What is with England teams and man-boobs? It's like they decided they were losing matches because they weren't strong enough so they have hit the gym big time. These are U20s and they looked ripped. And yet the guy doing the damage for NZ (Cruden) is no colossus (5'9" 82kg).

I don't mind ReUnion, but the quality varies wildly. If it's Richard Loe, or (formerly) John Drake, or someone who can actually analyse a game, I'll watch. If it's Stu - I'm turning over.
Still, if they mentioned the 6 points thing last Wednesday, it turns out the All Blacks don't watch it.

The rules for the Gallaher Trophy are down in black and white. If the so-called professional players (let alone the coaches) can't be bothered reading them...
Even in a tiddlywinks type sport likev Petanque the scoring system is spelled out before tournaments begin...

The question now is, given that the challenge match is selected by mutual agreement between the two unions, why did nobody at NZRU HQ tell, well, anybody?

I didn't see the Re-Union program but I had heard a couple of times prior tot he test that we needed to win by 6 or more. It must have been brought up on radio sport, but it was definately out there.
Rokocoko spilt the ball forward 3?? times in the test on Saturday night.
He's trying hard like he always does but as they pointed out, he hasn't scored a test try for the ABs since the game v Romania in 2007 (7 tests ago for him) and given he's in the side to score tries that must indicate something just isn't happening for him. He scored 7 tres in 14 matches for an awful Blues team. But things just don't seem to be either a) opening up for him or b) he's taking the wrong options when chances arise or c) he keeps dropping the effing ball!!!!

I totally don't remember that, then again I was drinking (in a very shit pub). I remember Jane dropping it multiple times because I remarked on it at the time. Alright, I concede Joe had a bad game.

There would seem to be far more credibility in saying that there's a problem that needs to be addressed. As an overseas prospective ticket buyer who can read English, I'm not exactly brimming with confidence in teh PM assessment of things, and if things will be any better by 2011.

I actually went to the game. Some observations:

I think it is bloody tasteless the way the NZRFU has taken the dead of WW1 and turned it into a marketing ploy for rugby. I don't believe it stands for anything those poor bastards that died in that war "stood" for, unless one counts jingoism and misplaced European Imperialism as an equally positive trait to rank commercialisation.
I thought Donald was bad until I realised just how totally awful and swirling and unpredictable that wind and that end of the stadium was. I will withhold judgement for a bit.
There a lots of wingers in NZ faster, fitter and smarter than Roco is right now.

Hmmm, Bastareaud hasn't made an actual complaint, no one appears to have witnessed the assault (at least, no one has come forward) and their doesn't appear to be any CCTV footage of said assault. He didn't see his attackers properly, can't give any descriptions and has returned to France making no further comment.
I smell bullshit.

The commentators were mentioning the need-to-win-by-6-points thing constantly throughout the game. I assumed the ABs knew, which is why McAllister went for the drop-goal. In fact, I thought that's what they were setting up for at the very end, and then Weepu kicked it out. I figured he'd been told it was better to win the match than worry about the trophy, but I guess not.

I was also at the game, and when Damien Traille caught the ball after the drop goal attempt, my heart was in my mouth, imagining a 80 metre, 80th minute dash.
So, despite knowing about the margin needed, I didn't mind when Piri kicked it out.
