    Wow - they are seriously tiny creatures, thanks for a great story. Do they really echo-locate at 40 Hz ? Bats are often associated with ultrasound so perhaps you meant 40 kHz (aka 40,000 Hertz). Or 40 ultrasound clicks per second ?

    Where were you when I needed fact-checking :)

    If you look at the video you can see the detectors say 'khz' on them, and the dial is set to 40.0, so I guess you're right, yes!

    Lovely story, thanks for sharing. I reckon a fear of bats is not all that weird given their well known role as reservoirs of infectious disease. Even our NZ bats ..
