And within Nelson Lakes, Rotoiti is a different world to Rotoroa, although they're geographically so close. Rotoroa's wet and jungly, Rotoiti's much drier and more like the rest of Marlborough. Together they feed the mighty Buller.…

I've only seen it in the misty rain, but it's beautiful then, too.

I used my bigger top-mounted flash, and managed to get the skaters relatively sharp, while the background movement and lights made it interesting. Was very experimental, TBH. Not something I've done before. But…

Ours is flowering too. It's probably a Kermadec Pohutakawa like ours, which flowers several times a year.

Without the spotlights the light in there was weird – doing strange things to people.
