  • Hard News: A solution in search of…,

I keep looking at the numbers, and thinking, as a promoter, what I could do with 23 million dollars of public money... and the sort of party/parties I could throw with that sort of coin!

Think you could go a long way with some marquis, temporary bars (think the heinekin bar from Highlife matakana, jagermeister bus etc) some PA systems, etc.

Hell, could even make use of the containers, that they are so fond of for the new prisons.

Point being that 23 million is a lot of money to be building crap, that will probably never be used again.

Far better to open the flood gates to promoters etc to put on something (or multiple things) that are decent for the punters.

Minister's Drug Revelation Leads To Call For Resignation

ACT on Campus is calling for the resignation of Justice Minister Simon Power, following his comments on Drug Reform policy on Thursday.

Responding to a set of drug law reform proposals laid out by the Law Commission, Mr. Power told The Dominion Post on Thursday that there was not a single solitary chance that as long as he was the Minister of Justice that drug laws would be relaxed in New Zealand.

“Where's the justice in Minister Power proclaiming what will be the law without regard for the Commission's research and the views of the New Zealand public? The Minister should resign and make way for someone who is willing to consider the evidence and listen to the public.” said Peter McCaffrey, ACT on Campus Vice President.

ACT on Campus is encouraged by the Law Commission's proposals which would allow marijuana to be used for medicinal purposes, and ensure that those using marijuana recreationally would not be criminalised and imprisoned, but instead be sent to rehab.

“Victimless crimes should not be crimes and all and highly restrictive drug laws are more harmful than the drugs themselves as they drive the drug trade underground, often leading users and addicts resorting to crime to fund their habits.” said Peter McCaffrey.

Be nice to see something from Labour/Greens youth wings too.

And even then there was aboslutely zero evidence to suggest that the harms of banning BZP were less than the harms of consuming it.

  • Hard News: The Death of Evidence,

    @I/S
"Brian Fallow got it right: "[T]is a profoundly conservative Government and that what it is chiefly interested in conserving is its popularity." Sensible, evidence-based drug-policy doesn't play well with the redneck "tough on crime" vote, and so they're not interested in doing it."

But it should, sensible drug policy should free up more $$$ resources, court resources, prison beds etc, completely assfuck the gangs source of money - all giving the cops more time/money/space to go real tough on real crime.

Drug liberalisation SHOULD be a rednecks wet dream for getting all them real criminals.. rapists/murderers/robbers etc, yet it isn't.

Its all about the packaging - and thats how I've constantly thought it should be packaged.

  • Speaker: Towards a realistic drug policy,

The argument is a lot simpler.

    Its my body. Not yours.

Noone should be able to dictate what I can or cannot consume, regardless of the harm to myself if I so choose - unless I harm others.

And it should be the harm to the others that should be punished, not the consumption that may or may not lead to said harm.

  • Hard News: Drugs and Sex,

One wonders if the real reason for the Maori Parties lack of support for the bill was that many of their voters in northland stand to lose massive amounts of income if cannabis is ever legalised.

Profit's would drop through the floor if everyone was allowed to grow their own.
