I never would have picked it. - do you mean Mr. Big or Ludwig von Siegfried?

  • Hard News: Our new strategy is to FAIL,

But you know what? Someone in a position to know (or at least speculate) suggests to me that eMusic has never had the right to sell to New Zealanders. Which would explain certain recent events ...

Although that does cast an even more interesting light on the RIANZ submission's bigging-up of eMusic ...

Yes, we tried to interview eMusic for Music 101 on RNZ last year - thinking: "finally, a business model which might work!' After the PR person initially being keen-as, they came back & declined because they didn't want the coverage in a territory they didn't actually have covered off. (I wasn't here yesterday for this discussion, hence late contribution)

  • Hard News: Reasons to be cheerful,

    Hi Russell,

Quite off topic, but maybe people would like something nice to listen to?

Here's the web page (inc. downloadable audio where possible!) of a live music radio show RNZ National did at Roundhead Studios last week.
The Naked & Famous, The Mots, Dictaphone Blues, Dr Colossus & Neil Finn & Friends (Don McGlashan, Sean from SJD, Bic Runga etc) playd for a studio audience... and RNZ. Its a beautiful thing.

  • Hard News: Just Friday,

    Hi Russell,

Thanks for noticing Access All Areas: Headless Chickens Re-animated (more of Trevor Reekie's good work) and Bowie's Waiata as broadcast during Music 101 recently.

Just to let people know, the full version of Bowie's Waiata plays again tonight (Fri 28 Nov) at 7.30pm on Radio New Zealand National (heard on variations of 101FM in most places around NZ, also live streamed at www.radionz.co.nz) - I know its terribly old skool to tune in at a specific time, but this is the superior version - the audio-on-demand is different due to copy rights restrictions.

And we will be looking into your comments re Music AOD.

Wish I was in AK tonight.

    cheers
    LIISA

  • Hard News: Bean-Counting the Beat,

Just to let you know that Trevor Reekie's 'Access All Areas: On Air with Brendan Smyth' will air at approx. 2.10pm Saturday 17 May on Radio NZ National 101FM & live stream @ www.radionz.co.nz

The complete raw interview will be posted at RNZ National Music Talk (under 'A' for Access All Areas) from 5pm tomorrow.

I had a weird moment recently, visiting Kircaldies & Stains (Wellie's posh dept. store - I don't usually have cause to go there) when they played the Mint Chicks over the shop stereo... it actually cause my brain to 're-track' - "WHERE am I?" VS "yes, it IS what I think it is"...

Things are by no means perfect in NZ Musicland, but they are so, so much better than the bad old days.

Trevor Reekie, the founder of Pagan and Antenna Records, and also the producer(?) of the excellent Access All Areas music interview slot for Radio NZ National. He was checking his research for his interview with Brendan Smythe on related topics, which will air tomorrow as part of Music 101 tomorrow afternoon some time between 2pm and 5pm. I'll link to the full interview when it goes up on the RNZ website early next week.
