  • Stories: Love,

Also, I think showing love to people takes persistence, people often push you away and wont tell you what they need. I know I have failed at paying attention and persisting sometimes this year. So I am going to aim to pay attention to what people need and ask for what I need as directly as I can.

  • Stories: Love,

Stephen, it is always great to apologise to someone when you really mean it.

Love eh, well I am feeling profoundly thankful to my flatmate, friends and family who have put up with my unemployed self after I was made redundant. When I moved into my flat my flatmate knew I had been made redundant and didn't hold my non-earning status against me. No doubt she (nor I) had no idea how long it was going to take for me to find permanent work. She has been an absolute balm to my injured pride and a stoic companion on the breadline (she is a musician on a low income).

An ex-colleague paid for me to fly to Auckland for my mothers 50th and refused to be paid back. Another friend flew me to Auckland for a mental health holiday when she could sense I was truly distressed.

I got the news that I had scored a (great) job on Christmas Eve.

The foodbank is going to get regular donations from me and Paula (beneficiary basher) Bennett can kiss my arse.

  • Hard News: Let's lynch the liberals!,

    Ditto, thanks Hilary.

I am tutoring some adult literacy students and it is fun to go through the sound formation stuff with them. What I hope is that the scientific approach feels more adult for them. Because they aren't, you know, dumb.....

  • Speaker: ACTA: Don't sell us down the river,

In the NZ context at the moment it would probably make sense to limit downloads (or some such) only because it doesn't seem to make business sense to give people unlimited high speed WiFi (especially if it is free in a cafe or pub). I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong on that one, I remember Verona Cafe in Auckland used to have free WiFi and I know that the Malthouse in Wellington does too. What is the quality like I wonder....

But in the future we will need to keep up with the rest of world and it just is not practical to penalise businesses for the actions of individuals in this way in the long term.

  • Speaker: ACTA: Don't sell us down the river,

    Yeah, what Simon said.

I would not have known that people used WiFi like this if I hadn't lived overseas (I am not intending to be patronising), hell I didn't even own a cellphone when I left the country.

A lot of NZers will be using the tools in this way sooner than you think, and spending energy (read: time and money) trying to "block" bad behaviour does have a cost in the form of hindering the useful stuff people can do using the tools.

Interesting debate. Nice that folks are mostly managing to keep their hair on this time around....

  • Up Front: The Doctor Will See You Shortly,

Oh and "sociable Stephen" is a compliment of course.

I am supposed to be playing Anti-Monopoly right now but instead I am dipping in and out here.

    How unsociable.

  • Cracker: Ho Ho Ho,

I am pretty gobsmacked the council think that it is appropriate to spend that much money on a bloody bauble.

They should have put that money straight into the foodbank.

  • Up Front: The Doctor Will See You Shortly,

Robyn Gallagher would tell the anecdotes better.

    On twitter she summerised thusly:

Highlight of the PA books launch: the naughty, funny stories from the fellow from the actual Reserve Bank.

I enjoyed talking to the professional and baby journalists that seemed to be everywhere.

Bob the toddler was pretty winning I have to say.

Stephen Judd was on form as one of the most naturally sociable people I have ever met.

Yeah it was good. I had to rush off early but I enjoyed meeting all the PA folks and various "friends of Russell".

  • Up Front: The Doctor Will See You Shortly,

    Well, that was fun.

I got to satisfy my curiosity and buying one/both of the books is on my list.
