That is not very nice, rodgerd.

Nicer than your desire to send people to prison for irritating you.

  • Hard News: Contains strong language,

My sympathies are not with those who make a habit of making life unpleasant for others. There is only so much irritation people can reasonably be asked to bear.

So the litmus test of whether I belong in jail or not is whether I irritate you?

You obviously assume you don't irritate anyone else, much, I assume, as other backers of this creepy, fascistic legislation.

Well according to the census data that came up in the t'other thread it's nearly 50% identifying as non-religious under 35-ish, so it seems like only a matter of time.

and look how Castro has ruined Cuba.

Maybe it's just me, but Cuba looked pretty ruined before Castro got anywhere near it, unless you were a Mob stooge or part of the dictatorship's apparatus.

I never have, and never will, answer any questions about my ethnicity (until they slip "mongrel" in there somewhere),

Tick other, write mongrel, there you are. Or write New Zealander, but I'm reliably informed by the PA commenterati the latter marks you as a racist white guy.

How would we feel if we had 1 mechanic for every 60 cars in society, and we had to phone one second day to help us get home?

We replaced our English cars with Japanese ones, and those days were but a distant memory. Sorry British Leyland.

Since we moved to a gui interface from text, I only get phone calls once a fortnight from my mother, I used to get them a couple of times a week.

Conversely, my wife loves LaTeX and detests Word.

I'm an Atheist myself. I find it mildly annoying. In an ideal world, I'd like to see that and the bloody parliamentary prayer out the door.

Agreed. The most irritated I've ever been with one friend was when she blithely insisted that because the anthem didn't specify a particular flavour of religion, it was all-inclusive. Which seems to be the general "fuck-you if you aren't religious" sentiment common at multifaith pow-wows.

And can I register my immense distaste at and irritation with the crying-little-kid-my-pet-is-dead-because-mummy-and-daddy-didn't-get-kitty-insurance ad at the top of the page?

But there's a reason why we don't have any kind of analogue to the Shankill Road or the Kuta Beach bombings or Kosovo in our history books.

My wife's grandmother's father used to tell her tales of his dad taking him to the Auckland Domain so that he could be properly educated in taking a cudgel to the heathens. I can't recall whether the heathens in question were Protestants or Catholics, but happily the boy failed to be inculcated with religious fervour, and neither did many other children of immigrants in our little country. Probably influenced by the desire to leave that shit in the old country.

(I worked with a Serbian bloke a few years ago who told me he'd come to New Zealand with his family in the 1990s to live somewhere boring.)

One of the saving graces of New Zealand as a nation is that we just don't care about religion that much. I actually think Clark has opened a rather bad can of worms with this conference on that front.

If that doesn't work he could always run TV ads for PA based around girls in bikinis.

I hear there are women who are rather fond of looking at other women in bikinis.

The former I can do in several languages

In order to install a current Oracle version on a current Redhat version

Because installing Oracle is noted as both a common task for end-users, and trivial to do on any platform, it represents an excellent test of the platform in question.

Personally I prefer trying to upgrade my Linux PCs to my Windows ones. Major upgrades with the latter seem to lead to black screens of non-booting or activation related pain with monotonous regularity.

Why does a nation/country (I'll let others decide that one) need a religion?

It doesn't, any more than a country needs an official political party.

Many religions, however, seem desperate to own countries.

Yep, the people still rule, thankfully. And as long as they're using Windows and Office at home, we'll still be using it in the work place.

Yes, although one wonders how many people would be using Office at home if they couldn't nick copies.

Brian never seems to regard Judeo-Christian as being sufficiently in-the-tent. Jews too, it would seem, are "defiling our soil".

Yes, our traditional values of electing Jewish premiers seem to have passed him by. Fisher and Paykel's factories have kept a few Kiwis in jobs, too.

And big gay Dalvainius Prime did more for modern Maori culture Tamaki or the Harawira mob, I would submit; shame on so-called Maori rights campaigners for shitting on Maori who are insufficiently Christian or heterosexual.
