  • Hard News: The Web, in reply to Richard Aston,

Its funny but when I think back to my early experiences with the net in 1995 I don't feel much nostalgia, yet I do with music etc .

I do feel a nostalgia for pre internet times - when the world was huge and complex and it just doesn't feel like that anymore, information is at our fingertips and everything seems accessible

I sometimes reflect back on how the net impacted on work life and how that made so many time consuming jobs easier and easier, well faster - I was in importing and distribution... turnaround from order being faxed to landing on the door went from a fortnight to 3 days over a number of years - depending on country... magic really.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Both sides of…, in reply to Russell Brown,

    * Disclaimer: I don't actually have 'sets" as such. I just listen to music on my computers by myself.

    Well played.

    +1

    + 1

for youse DJs and the dancers whom remember the heady days of yesteryear...

a pretty choice Grant Nelson remix of the classic T-Coy Carino

    https://soundcloud.com/grantnelson/t-coy-carino-gn-private

and Greg Churchill's mint remix of This Is Ska

    https://soundcloud.com/greg-churchill/longsy-d-this-is-ska-greg

both perfect for the home computer mixologist or them that play out to the elderly, these are possibly not youth friendly - though both are idiot and violence free

  • Hard News: Telecom and TV,

Anyone know how much content 20 million gets? I suspect not a lot of what one would call quality - which is what will drive subscribers outside of the sporting options avail.

Like most, I figure, I'd just like to get netfix or... an established and content heavy service rather than watch what will be a train wreck as NZ telco's dabble and NZ monopolies put off the inevitable

Slight aside - spotify on Telecom mobile only applies to some plans, I have to change my plan to qualify for the deal (its well above the entry point) - pretty much the exact same features same cost different plan name - cheers telecom staff for being pleasant to deal with, no thanks telecom for making iot quite a frustrating process. I image they will crush anyones will to watch their TV service with the signup process

Been digging the Yumi Zouma... beautifully chilled. There's a ace remix on their labels soundcloud - plus some tasty downloads from other acts too

    https://soundcloud.com/cascine

I'd quite like one of the bright young things (or old timers) dabbling in electronic stuff to make something sampling cicadas

I agree its a crock.... and one with justifications that can't be applied to all touring acts (one hopes) or thats it for live performances by pretty much all touring acts

  • Hard News: Friday (Thursday) Music: Mad Props,

As much as it'd be wonderful to see all kinds of executive jets at Auckland airport and the Kings Arms littered with the expense claims of A&R agents worldwide the fact is as Simon says and Robyn reiterates that whilst we may see plenty of Lorde imitators (winning formula repeated until cashflow stops) but they won't be selected from a geographic point, its a style thing.

That isn't to say some/many local acts may not benefit from the exposure and success of Lorde, one hopes. She certainly has piut NZ on the map for many millions of music fans - that alone carries potential benefits for our artists

The most obvious beneficiaries will be those that can ride the coat-tails: Lorde's management team and that of Joel himself and his management (cue Broods) - those whom now have doors wide (opportunities) open in key places. Success breeds success at a business level

    tunage I'm digging...

This wonderful scribe remix by Mr Greg Churchill

  • Hard News: Unscripted Drama,

I generally loathe organised sports but the one thing sporting I did really enjoy was attending test cricket at eden park and the occasional one day match, that was until they got rid of the terraces and made attending a expensive and bloody horrid affair (bad service, OTT security et al)

I must go to Hamilton or Napier one day to watch a game and relive what can be a really enjoyable day out whether you're a fan or not
