  • Hard News: Occupy: Don't call it a protest,

My take is that the Occupy phenomena is essentially one of bearing witness. Pretty apt although I suspect there'll be no forgetting happening soon.

I'm so so so willing it to swell and succeed and to accomplish something historic and I've decided to take my first foray into Civic Square for a chat this week. If I had to take a sign?

I see what you did there.

I see how you're getting away with it.

I can't make you stop on my own.

So I will encourage others to join and act.

    And hopefully we will overcome.

  • Hard News: When the Weather is the News,

We live quite high up in the eastern hills of the Hutt Valley and right now, like Sunday evening, it is absolutely dumping snow. Big, fat flakes the likes I haven't seen since living in Colorado a few years back. It's really quite glorious and has kept me off the roads but working from home all week.

  • Field Theory: Bicycle Race,

A friend of a friend is quite nuts about it all. He tapes all the action while he's at work then watches in the evenings while riding his race bike on rollers in the living room. Each year he does the same thing and generally covers about 80-90% of the course in 'real' time.

  • Hard News: What the kids do,

I wonder how many of the kids - and big kids - out there are using this?

  • Hard News: The witless on the pitiless,

It occurs to me, and not for the first time, that the voices and opinions expressed in this thread and others (you beautiful, curious, intelligent, articulate bastards) is everything that's missing from our dominant media outlets.

Which is just as well or PA would have little need to exist. Makes me wonder how much would we need to collectively contribute - as per other thread - to buy the six o'clock spot and take it to the people.

  • Hard News: Asking for a Contribution,

    With pleasure.

PA provides such a valuable range of opinion, information, wit, links, ideas and general excellentness that I'd be happy to contribute annually. I imagine it wasn't the easiest thing to do to ask for help but you, Russell, have built and provided for this community so it's the least we can do.

My boss and I are occasional contributors to PA threads and we very much understand the difficulties in providing a valuable service to the community for free. So, at the risk of being denounced as a 'me too' threadjacker, if anyone feels like contributing to another good cause, please feel free to do so.

  • Hard News: Any excuse for a party,

So anyway, it all wound up with me and my crazy-assed friends dancing to some funky tunes on the deck at 2.30am, which probably did not impress the neighbours. Sorry neighbours. We just had to boogie.

Ah yes....that damned aloo gobE...goes straight to your feet.

  • Cracker: RIght On.,

Seems to me that this suits National very well going into an election. They're flying in the polls, are likely to be in a strong position to either govern alone or with Dunne/Act support. Thereafter they have the numbers to swing right and really get their agenda going.

In fact, I'm starting to feel this is a long-standing plan finally coming to fruition.
