  • Hard News: TVNZ on Demand actually…,

Just wondering if anyone's had a chance to try using ondemand through Parallels (running Windows XP or Vista) on a Mac? Sometimes even this doesn't get past the old No-Macs-Allowed barrier but sometimes it does... Cheers.

And I have to agree with Russell's comment re: paying for a one week license when I can just download it... I'll likely be able to buy the DVD's (which I get to keep!) around the same time I can download one episode... Although one thing I've now wised up to lately is buying a tv series box set I'd like to see, watching it and then onselling it as soon as I'm done (in near brand new condition). It only ends up costing about $20 to watch the whole series in my own time.

  • Booze Britain,

Is there any better show for the raw [and yes, compelling] portrayal of the Brits on the booze... Some of the stories are truly gripping including one I saw where a guy is so drunk, he gets stabbed in the side of the head with a knife and continues to waltz along the pavement oblivous to what's happened for more than 20 metres before he keels over - and I think he died.

But I couldn't help but laugh at the little segue they have between segments ending in the old fashioned British "Oi!". Truly funny.

  • Hard News: Kids these days,

As someone who is in that age group AND pretty much fits with the majority on those statistics, I feel it's not really a fair representation despite that.

Among most people, especially friends from school, university and now work colleagues, I generally stick out as I don't listen to commercial radio [go the b!], don't enjoy your typical "Blockbuster" film and have absolutely no opinion or affiliation with religion whatsoever [admittedly that's not as ostrasicing as the other departments]. Oh, and to further seperate me from kiwi's, I don't like rugby either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some weird social outcast, I am plenty social but just because I fall into those categories doesn't mean I feel like one of them. I don't feel I'm a fair representation of people my age and yet I slot right in next to them statistically. I don't really feel you can group the generations into these broad summaries of what they're like. Yes you can say they're more prone to this and that and less prone to that and this but does that REALLY tell you a thing about them other than that they MIGHT have a myspace page?

gosh - probably the most serious post i've made on pubaddsys thus far.

oh and yes - of course i have a myspace... www.myspace.com/adrianwills

  • Stories: Best Party Ever,

A friend of mine hosted a flatwarming party at his new residence in Remuera and asked if I'd DJ for it. He organised a nice big sound system in the basement, a tonne of free carlsberg beer and gave me a chilli bin full of red bull for my troubles.

I started playing at about 8 o'clock as people started to arrive, kicking off with a little light hip hop and downbeat stuff. People arrived, started getting down and I ended up playing just about everything in my record bag, and all the good stuff off my computer - Hip Hop, House, Electro, Drum & Bass, Retro, even some good Alt Rock for the hip punters, and at about 2.30-3am I think it was, I literally ran out of music just as the party wrapped up and the music had been as loud as it could go all night. No fights, no police, no noise control (incredibly) and the hit track of the night was The Tutts' "K" which absolutely blew the roof off.

Thanks to all the Remuera residents who didn't complain, and word spread to friends in Canada and Europe of not only how good the part was, but the rockin DJ that played. Stoked.

  • Cracker: In Which Damian Finishes What…,

I don't know that I'll rush out to see The Queen - does any woman on earth look like she has a more boring life?

And Little Miss Sunshine was a delightfully good movie, I even thought (although i love his humour) Steve Carrell might not fit into it at first but it just turned out to be all around gem of a film.

Has anyone seen For Your Consideration yet? Not the greatest Christopher-Guest-and-co film yet but not bad. Definitely has it's moments.

  • Hard News: Testify!,

And why does it seem to take Brian Tamaki so much effort to close his eyes compared to everyone else? Almost as if he's struggling to believe the s### he's shovelling. See pic.

  • Hard News: I hope she does something interesting,

In telecom related issues (aren't they all) found this on Stuff this morning....
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3949271a28,00.html

a sensible move for them to let this go public after this story ran on friday....
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/3947635a28.html

given that Telecom's most recent "Unleashing" of their services was decidely AVERAGE, I can't seem to get too excited about ADSL2 just yet. I play a bit of Xbox 360 online so I really notice up/download speeds and their changes and I'm pretty sure it's worse since the unleash. I WOULD want to try out ADSL2 when it's released if I was convinced it'd be faster - but at this stage, I'm just not. Sort out your ADSL1 before you go leaping ahead again and leaving the last technology redundant.
