errr...cheers Sacha. It was in response to myself ranting about too much sport then posting a sports vid, which got embedded in Graeme's otherwise mostly sports neutral column.

It's a great game from the 'Nix, but hardly some of the genius things, like the Harry Enfield number that popped up in David Haywood's column.

  • Random Play: The Key’s under the Matt,

oh and while I'm creating mischief...DPF did note on his website how damn awesome the Wellington Phoenix played on Friday, please check it out and tell me if Dan Carter or Luke McCallister (both handy ball players) could top that bit of skill from Smeltz.

I did suggest that the Phoenix should have signed Carter to keep him in the country in the national interest, but nobody quite picked up on it...

    Hi Graeme,

sorry I am going to be the bear headed one here. It's not just you buddy.

    What happened to public address?

I am a great fan of your writing, and I purchased your book of postcards. However, of late it has been lots of plugs for elsewhere, and little of your genius for style, mood and feeling that we have been accustomed too.

Now you're cutting Key slack. Perhaps you should hop over to No Right Turn and consider that this government means we are now officially as stupid on science as Bush's America. If no secret agenda means re-litigating climate change waeeeehae...

and while I'm raving wishing I was an accredited curmudgeon...

is there some positive discrimination going on for rugby and sport here? They don't get enough coverage out there in the rest of the media in the whole country?

sorry. badly behaved child back in his box.

  • OnPoint: There is no depression in New…,

    Keith is back.

does that mean the other half of the antipodean crime fighting will also be seen?

I have to say, and it may not be popular, but I kind of resent that Public Address has too become a sport swamped place. It used to be a place to come and hang out and get away from that man!

kind of like a cafe with lots of clever folk with interesting stuff to say. where you might get an odd paragraph or guest post about it, but not the mainstream obsession.

ach weel. I'm trying to rationalise the Key years too. But frankly- losing ACC, the ETS, workers rights, the RMA...well we'll wait and see I guess. The last National government I remember had Winston Peters as Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister, until that changed and it was held together by the support by an Alliance list MP. So I may not have much to go by really.

  • Island Life: The Art of the Deal,

It seems to me that Labour has no alternative government arrangement to offer Maori.

Therefore if Maori refuse to be involved the any governing arrangement they lose any true input, and force ACT to be come the only ally has for National.

If National is truly home to any centrist MPs, or if it wants to look at the result and acknowledge they got there by not changing too much really, they have a chance to prove it.

What can they get and what influence can they have? We will have to wait and see. But, potentially the Maori party is in a position to have a significant role in government irrespective of the major party.

  • Hard News: Congratulations, Mr Key,

There's been talk about Key's 'Tranzrail eyes'.

Tell you what, the two reaction shots during that Hyde interview- I don't know what you would call those eyes, but they weren't the look of someone who is used to letting people who annoy him hang around to do so.

  • Hard News: Congratulations, Mr Key,

Oh, this is cool. Check out the picture on the front page of the Labour 08 campaign website.

The Herald is speculating it might be hackers, but I'm sure it's just a little black humour.

yep concur. Just wonder why Labour had to wait until after the election to find a bit humour or down to earthness and self awareness. ach weel.

Russell, improving public accounts is irrelevant when you have private debt is as bad as NZ's. Take a look at Japan. The public debt is 150% of GDP--an appalling state for a country in its stage of development. On the flip side, Japan remains a net creditor to the rest of the world? Why? Quite simply, households and the private sector live and operate within their means.

I personally blame the nanny state for the high level of private borrowing obviously brought on by a lack of tax cuts. This is what caused the housing bubble.
