I used Google to find out, but my excuse is I don't have a fleet of ministerial advisers to research important stuff for me.

I'd been thinking all afternoon that Paula Bennett must be NZ's answer to Sarah Palin, but any wisp of comedic potential the notion might have really doesn't make me feel any better at all about such a grievous abuse of ministerial privilege.

I wonder whether at some fundamental level, the members of a government that got itself elected on a promise of 'less government' and a belief in the effectiveness of the private sector might not have set themselves up for failure? It would be difficult to believe that your intervention was the best response in any circumstance.
Meanwhile, imagine what effect a billion or two invested in stimulating environmentally friendly export businesses would have on the economy, instead of blowing it on building motorways of dubious merit...

Just back from two docos:
Was highly entertained by "RiP: A remix manifesto" which covers copyright issues in a much (mash?) more lively manner than usual. It's also food for thought in the current discussion around the NZ internet copyright infringement legislation. What are we trying to achieve anyway? Protecting big corporates' profits or encouraging human creativity?
Straight after, dashed down to The Civic to catch "The Cove". Who knew? Director Louie Psihoyos was there for a quick Q&A (despite the film's imminent launch in NYC), saying it was important for him to be here because he sees NZ as being on the frontline of ocean conservation issues.
